Help Help it won't sync so no root

Sometime ago I was reading a post here that had me change something on my phone that did something really cool to my phone. I can't remember what or where it was. I do have a faint memory of knowing it disables the sync. So now when I put the cable on the computer and Ghent to the phone the computer does absolutely nothing. It doesn't even see the phone. The phone does go ion debugging mode.

I have tried to manually put the phone in disk drive mode and sync mode. I am still at the same spot.

I have tried two brand new cables, so I'm doubting it s the cable.

Hoping someone has a better memory than me.

usb debugging mode turns on when plugged into the computer, but the drives won't mount?

Ps possibly "the really cool thing you did to your phone" was disabling the popup that would show up on your computer every time you plugged it in asking you to install verizon software.
