Help make a decision

Hello everyone! I've been reading the boards for the last few months and was so excited when the Thunderbolt finally launched. But after reading about dust under the glass, the light leaking problem, and poor battery life (I'm in 4g area), I'm having second thoughts. I have almost jumped on the android train a few times - Incredible (didn't because of poor battery) and almost went with the Droid X, but I really like the look and feel of HTC's UI, so decided against it.

I went into a verizon store this weekend to play with the Droid X and Fascinate, as I can get the X for free and the Fascinate for $30 or $40 through Dell.com. The X was nice, but the haptic feedback on both of the X models didn't work and I checked to see if that was checked and it was. I am sure the poor phone has been messed with plenty, so I am not sure if that is the reason, but I did read on some forums that people were having that issue just a few months into owning the phone. Granted, it's a small thing, but makes me wonder about the quality of the phone. I liked the Fascinate, but I know it comes with Bing (yuck) and I haven't read the best of reviews for it.

So my question is this - do I just get one of these phones and be locked in with it for 2 years? Are they worth it? Do I wait for the Incredible 2? There are rumors of it launching anywhere from the end of March to May. I really don't want to wait anymore as I have had my samsung flip for 3 or 4 years and I am sooooooo due for a new phone. I like the idea of being able to use voice and data at the same time and I'm guessing that the Incredible 2 will be able to do that? I have decided against the Thunderbolt for the above mentioned reasons, with the battery being the biggest issue. I don't want to have to worry about always having a charger with me or turning off 4g, etc. I don't mind charging it every night, but I don't want to be a slave to its battery. Buying an extended battery is out of the question.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You answered your own question. You should definitely not get it. At this stage of the product lifecycle, it should only be owned by early adopters. Early adapters expect to have issues with new technology. Verizon should have done a more thorough test market of the TB. With all that said, I am enjoying my TB.

If verizon didn't start charging the restocking fee and still allowed for 1 month return, then I would try it as I would have nothing to lose. Should I get the Droid X for free or will I be regretting it? Even though the Fascinate has Bing, is it any better or worse than the X?

My other concern is the talk about tiered data. If I go with a 3g phone now and in 2 years buy a phone that is on 4g will I be subject to tiered data or would I still get unlimited data since I already have a data plan?

LOL, people had the same complaints about the EVO 4G. The EVO 4G is the best selling phone in the history of Sprint. Hence the Thunderbolt was born from the EVO. There will be a few cases of people who will have minor issues with their phone. If you are worried about those issues, take the time to inspect the phone before you leave the store. Why is everyone in such a rush all the time? Inspect the phone after the sales rep pulls the phone from the box. Turn it on, take it into a dark room. You are paying for the phone so check it out like its a used care. dang

The Droid X is a fine phone. The Dinc 2 is just a few enhancements. Having both simultaneous call and data is worth it to me in a second... not even thinking about speed issues for apps and data. No brainer IMHO.

Droid X blows. I had it and returned it within my 14 days. Moto blur absolutely kills any hope of a good experience you can hope to have with that phone. Most frustrating experience I've ever had with a phone.

I've had the Incredible, Fascinate, Nexus one, Droid X, and the Thunderbolt.

The Thunderbolt is by far my favorite Android handset. It does have its' drawbacks, but if you're in a 4G area, I think it's worth it. Just depends on what you value. If you're looking for a flawless experience, the Incredible or Fascinate are probably your best bets. If you don't mind dealing with some BS then go Thunderbolt.

Or you can wait a little bit and the Incredible 2 will be dropping. IMO, no Motorola Android handset is worth it. The software is TOTAL garbage.

Im going to bump up this thread because I too am concerned about the rumor i heard that if you're on a 3g unlimited data plan now, you wont get unlimited data with a 4g phone if you updrade to one in late spring/early summer. I am up for an upgrade now and it kinda irritates me that I can shell out 149.99 for a 3g fascinate with a 29.99 unlimited data plan and pay the same 149.99 for a 4g thunderbolt and get the same 29.99 unlimited data plan but yet if I buy the fascinate now and upgrade to a 4g phone in 20 months, i'll lose the unlimited data! Thats kind of a double standard in pricing as far as im concerned. Any more thoughts or facts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, if you get a 4g phone now from verizon, you will be grandfathered into a 4G unlimited plan when the tierd plans take affect(this is the latest we heard).

If you wait, and they go to tierd pricing then you will have to pick the tierd plan that you think fits you.

You cannot be on a 3G unlimited plan and be grandfathered into the 4g unlimited after tiered plans come out, you have to get a 4G phone and the current unlimited plan & be bumped up from 3G to the 4g unlimited plan (before the tierd plans arrive around summer)
