Help Help me help someone else....turn on data connection

Hello all,

I'm posting for my wife's aunt. She is having data connection issues. I believe the phone is fairly new(month or so old). She says she can only receive calls/texts.

Long story short she thinks she turned off the data connection and doesn't know how to turn it back on. I tried over the phone(flying blind tho as I do not have this phone)to no avail.

Could someone please post how to turn on the data connection? Also, do these phones operate in 3g/4g or just 4g?

FWIW I did have her check that baseband version thing I read about on these forums and that checked out ok.

The Indulge operates in 2G 4G. Or rather... 1xRTT and 4G.

But there must be service for such in that area.

Keep in mind that Metro PCS has some of the worst signal penetration I've ever seen. Test by being out with a clear view of the sky.

Only two ways I can think of where she would have turned it off. One is she turned on the airplane mode, that kills data. The other is she turned on the wifi, I have noticed on my phone if i have bad data connection it seems to drop all data and try login into a wifi. Those can be checked thru the drop down bar at the top.
 
Try the following steps one by one until you get to something good.
1) disable and reenable airplane mode
2) go to menu->settings->wireless&networks->mobile networks->network selection: select metropcs only
(You may also wish to check that data roaming is enabled (checked) here as well.
3)dial the number **583385## and tap on Global mode. A confirmation bubble will appearfor a short while. Exit the app and restart the phone.
4)go to the android marketplace and download and install the program MEID Converter. Locate and write down your meid. An easy way to get it is in the settings->about phone screeen. Open the MEID Converter and key in your meid. Your SPC UNLOCK code will appear. Jot it down. Open the dialer and type **33284. Enter your SPC code. You will need to check a a few things. Make sure RC connection chosen is RC3, under rc connection. Make sure under Korea mode, neither korea nor india mode are selected. Under hfk/diag, make sure the first option is selected. I,e hfk/diag and NOT diag/null. Finally, go to the hdr 1x screen and select hybrid mode. Restart
5) Call metropcs and have them reset your account from their end.
6)Backup all your data and perform a factory reset.
7)your unit is defective. Have it replaced at an authorized metropcs dealer.
