Help me install swype please.

I just got my Hero this morning, I'm trying to install swype and failing horribly :(.

I downloaded "Swype-HVGA.apk.zip" i left it in its zip form, i tried unzipping it and moving it over. then once its in the sd card i open up astro file manager and tap the swype.apk and it just browses it like a folder. I tried unpacking it and moving it over but again, it browses as if its a folder.

I haven't rooted yet, I'm still exploring the OS for the first time. (do i have to root to install apps via downloaded *.apk ?)

i also tried going to settings > app > install non market apps

I feel like a boob, appreciate any help.

go to beta.swype.com... register.. they'll send you a welcome email.. that email has the link to the LEGAL version of swype installer.. that gets you the LEGAL version of swype.
 
it appears closed.. but you should still get an email..and if you downloaded swype from anyone other than swype, then yes, it's illegal

Hmm, had no idea. Is it illegal to share a ShapeWriter apk (it was free)? They removed their app from the market about a week ago.
