I am having problems i am trying to root my phone for the first time and when i download the apk file i go by the directions off of tokenpokes thread and when i go to open the apk file it tells me there is a problem parsing the package. what should i do?

Sounds like the download got corrupted. Try again, or if you have a card adapter, just download to your PC and transfer the file that way to your phone, then use the file manager and install it.
