Help help me understand sync....

I went and selected sync all under accounts and sync. how do i get this back onto my phone and how can i be sure i won't loose all my contacts after a factory reset. I'm trying this to help with my Laggy 2.2 update. thanks a lot!!!!

ok i logged into my verizon on my phone and on my pc and neither has a "contacts" option. it says contacts under messaging but when i click on it, it does nothing.

ok i did try and sync using my phone and it seems to have worked since i just logged into my gmail account and all my contacts are there

I installed a free app called mybackup.
it will make a backup to your sd card.
