Root Help me with my bricked captivate!! Urgent!

So My phone worked perfectly all except the broken screen and i got a new one and sold the broken one on ebay...well the guy who bought it from me received it via ups and 4 days later filed a claim saying "did not receive item as described" so i was forced to refund him! When i got my phone back it has the (phone....caution sign....computer) screen...i have no clue what the guy did to cause this im just trying to fix it...i have tried everything about unbricking phones that i have read i just absolutely can not get this into download mode and when i use adb reboot download it does not recognize my phone... please help me!

Like I mentioned in the post above, you want to get the phone into Download Mode, and then use Odin One-Click to flash to JF6 (Eclair). Your phone isn't bricked.

There are button combos to get into Download Mode, and theres also something called a JIG which will get you into Download Mode. Not all phones happen to like the button combos to get into Download, which is where a JIG comes into play.

like i said ive tried everything, made a jig and it didnt work and ive been tryin the button combos for weeks...im ready to give up!

Ugh.

A bricked phone is one that is no more useful than a....brick. Since your phone is actually displaying something, it's not a brick.

You aren't the first person to have a phone in this state, panic about this situation, and tell others you've tried everything.

If you made a JIG, you should know you need around 300kohms of resistance between pins 4&5. You cannot touch any bare metal leads or the resistor with your bare skin. Your skin WILL change the resistance rendering the JIG useless.

Assuming you made the JIG correctly;
Remove battery, SIM and microSD card (if you have one)
Insert battery, do not power the phone on
Insert JIG and wait anywhere from 3 to 15 seconds
Download Mode should appear, and you can use Odin to flash to a known state

Over time, I have seen about 4+ methods of button combos to get into Download mode. Some methods work for some, others don't. The timing of your actions makes a difference as well.
