HELP! My daughter wants an iPhone

Hmmmm, you guys make some good points. If I cut her loose with the cash I'm gonna bet the farm she will come back with 7 foam fingers, 3 40 gallon cowboy hats, a rubber chicken while digging in a 10 pound bag of gummy worms. (the kid knows nothing about money & what is REALLY takes to get it). She's far from spoiled by 'far from' I mean, she just got her very own silverware to use at the dinner table (LMAO - JK, she still uses the plastic spork she got from school). But seriously, she's not a beggar or spoiled by any means... I'll get her the damn stinking iPhone for more than my car is worth but she's gonna have her name on the chore list for sure now. My chore list consist of tree cutting, stump removal, pouring concrete & that's just the 'fun' stuff. HA HA HA HA

She's my one & only kid so what the heck...

Poor kid, I almost feel bad with that chore list..... But for why she's getting the chore list, naaa :p

she ONLY wants an iPhone "because they have TONS of cool cases". Kids these days...

My wife feels that this is one of the best features of the iPhone. She has a few cases for her iPhone and swaps them around from time to time.

iPhones don't cut it for me, but if that's what your daughter wants then I say get her one. :)

I'm with you on this one... BUT since she's a case fanatic & wants to "keep up with the Jones" I'll have one under the damn tree for her... Then again we might not have a tree... heck, we might not have a place to live after I get her that phone but as long as she's smiling under a bridge that's all that matters right ? :hmpf:

What carrier are you with? Because some carriers offer 4 and 4s at a reduced price for the "refurbished" ones with an online special.

Virgin is getting ready to release the Samsung Galaxy S2, there are plenty of cool cases for that as well and it is priced at $369.

If they wasn't "loyal" to Virgin and the daughter was more open minded than to just the iphone. I'd suggest the s3 on metro since it's $499 and that's a steal right there.

I don't know how committed you are to Virgin, but if you want to stay prepaid and have Cricket where you live, they have the 4s 16 GB for $500 or 8 GB for $400.

I'm committed to Boost Mobile but she on the other hand is committed to Virgin Mobile. And SHE says she "only wants to pay $35.00 a month" for her cell bill... funny how when SHE has to pay she becomes an insane miser but when I pay, she runs through the store like she just won a '20 minute grab all you can' shopping spree.

You do realize that when your daughter looks at you she sees the letters "ATM" stamped on your forehead, right?

I know this is true from personal experience (I'm 18).

BTW, it was Trix that were for kids. Kix were kid tested, mother approved. :p

time to teach her the hard realities of life ;)
or, you could agree to go 50-50 for it; that way she realizes that you don't just pick money up from the streets :p

Looking at these options I'm kinda confused..... How the hell does the phone contract work over there?

Here in the UK we have a few choices...

1. Pay as you go - buy a phone (usually network locked as they are cheaper) Sim free, choose a network and you can top up x amount when you need.

2. There are now monthly Sims available for handsets, that will give you x minutes, texts and data allowance.

3. Contracts. These are in either 12, 24 or occasionally 36 month varieties. You pay a monthly bill of x amount and are given x minutes, texts and days. sometimes these require a slight down payment for the handset, but it's down to individual phone etc (example.. Not long after it was released I got the s2 for

Virgin, the network the OP is looking at is a contract free network. There's no subsidy for the phone which is why it's so expensive. There's a couple other ones like Cricket and Boost which piggy back on the big three's networks.
I'm with Verizon so the phones are far cheaper but require a two year contract.
