Root Help needed: getting 5.7.893 back on update path

Hi gang,

Pardon me if this has been covered here - I have not been able to locate a thread that deals with the issue I am experiencing. Here is my story:

A couple months back I did the update to 5.7.893. I read several posts after that about the difficulty in getting back on a "normal" moto update path.

Yesterday I visited here and saw the thread(s) regarding .902. In one post, someone in a similar situation as me was pointed towards the "Bionicpathsaver.zip" method of getting back on the normal path.

I downloaded and followed the procedure (at MDW) to apply the bioniocpathsaver stuff. That script pushes out 5.5.893 and .901, but I was going to skip .901 and let nature run its course so I could get .902.

Anyways...all was fine with the bionicpathsaver script UNTIL it tried to apply 5.5.893. From the recovery console, I get the following error when that is applied:

-- Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("MTD:boot: <long series of characters omitted here> ")
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Now when I check my phone it says I am at 5.5.886.XT875.
Kernal is 2.6.35.7-g68606e6
vwm736@il93lnxdroid43 #1

I actually was pushed the .893 update from Moto last night..and that failed with the same error.

Am I maybe missing something (bloatware?) that the system expects to see? Any other ideas for me?

Thanks...

The following link is very useful and worked for me to get back to full stock, original os and upgrade through the various updates to get to .902 rooted. Read some of the later pages in the thread as well as the OP. This method uses the rsdlite method of pushing the necessary stock images of the OS. Your error may indicate an incorrect boot image preventing the update. Timmy10shoes is very good at helping people through if you ask for help.

You could also flash the 5.5.893 fxz file with rsdlite. That will completely wipe your system except your ext-sd card and install 5.5.893, then you can take the ota for 5.9.902. There is a thread in the root section with a step by step how to do this with all the files to download. I will post a link when i get to a computer.

Having trouble getting the phone to show up in RSD Lite. Just to be clear, I start the fastboot menu, and go to RSD Lite... the phone goes through its normal boot process after about 30 seconds. Am I supposed to choose something specific at the fastboot menu?

I hope you don't mind, but I moved this thread to "All Things Root", as it seems more appropriate. Carry on.

FYI I got past this by cycling through the various USB connection modes. It showed up in RSD Lite when I hit "PC Mode".

Thanks to all who helped - I did get to .893, and then .902 was pushed out to me. Cool!
