I was attempting to flash a new rom on my TB
Specifically [Rom] [Ibolt Remix V0.93] - Updated 10/25/2011 ? Miui Style Rom - Dual Launchers - RootzWiki

I am flashing using ClockworkMod v3.1.0.2

Some recovery information:
HBOOT-1.04.2000 (PG0510000)
RADIO-1.16.00.0402

I have tried wiping /system, dalvik cache and the normal cache. The install also flashes a Kernal for me.

After "going back" to the main CWM page I see

E:Error in /cache/recovery/log
(Read-Only file system)
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

The last rom that I was running was a sense rom (Thunderom 1.0)

After a battery pull I sit at the white HTC screen and nothing happens...any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is my first flash of an AOSP rom as well o.O

You need to format /data as well with the wipes when you flash a rom. Also your CWM version is very outdated I would flash a new recovery and try again if you can't get back into recovery

How do I go about flashing a new recovery wiping /data and rebooting now.

Still stuck at HTC white screen

Download the new recovery from this thread http://androidforums.com/thunderbol...overies-hboot-updated-9-24-a.html#post3104987

You flash recoveries in hboot. On your CPU download the zip, check the md5sum, rename it PG05IMG.zip and transfer it to the root of your SD card, boot into hboot and allow it to update then it will try to restart. You will need to pull the battery if you can't boot and then try to boot into recovery

I have downloaded the newest recovery , and I'm currently on the Hboot page. I plug my phone into my pc , and it wont show my SD card and it tells me the device has malfunctioned and cannot be recognized.

To copy the file to ur sdcard u need go either boot up ur phone and put it in USB storage mode, boot into recovery and put it into USB storage mode, or remove ur sdcard and put it into an adapter and plug it into ur computer

kzisme can't boot into recovery or the OS ;)

No worries :), I am out of here for a bit so hopefully my directions will work if not I will likely check back in within an hour

Well I can boot into recovery ,but it's terribly out of date. Tomorrow I'll go grab a multi card reader.

I'm assuming this is fixable? I hate being without a phone...

Also what do you mean by checking the md5 sum?

If you can boot into recovery lets try to get your phone to boot before flashing a new recovery and it will eliminate any need for a card reader and also make it easier to check the md5sum.

First wipe dalvik cache, cache, /system, and /data. I think /data is listed as factory reset and cache is in the wipe menu. IIRC dalvik and /system are both under advanced. Once you have those wiped try flashing the rom you have downloaded or restoring your nandroid backup if you made one (i hope you did as this would be the easiest way to restore your phone to a booting phone)

Once you try this try to boot the phone and see if it sticks on the splash screen, give it a few mins to boot up hopefully it will boot for you.

An MD5sum is a way to verify your files. On you phone I recommend AFV from the market as it works very well and it is rather easy to use. You can also use programs like md5summer on your cpu to check the md5sum on the computer.

If the above method doesn't work to restore your phone then you should download a newer recovery and check the md5sum on your computer, and place it on the root of the SD card to flash in hboot. If the phone will boot afterwards then you can use the interface on the phone to do all of this.

I'm pretty sure I made a backup hte first time I flashed. I'll try the above when I get out of class , but I do still have my last rom (thunderom 1.0) on my sd card. Could that cause problems? I did factory reset and such through recovery so I don't think it would matter , but i'll do a full wipe when i get home

Wiped and cleared everything you said in that order. Let it six ~6 minutes on the splash screen and nothing happened.

how would I restore to the backup? through the clockwork recovery?

I do have the newest recovery downloaded on my computer , but I need to go get a card reader. Could you give me some steps to do that?

Does a factory reset do anything or is that of any use?

You should have done a factory reset with the wiping it is the same as wiping /data. I based on your PMs I think you are not going to be able to restore your backup :(

If you can get to recovery you should be able to mount the SD to the CPU to send a new rom to it. Try flashing a new rom before worrying about hboot flashing. This should bypass the need for a card reader.

Yeah I did the factory reset last night as well.

I can get it to mount now.

I have to go to work now , but I'm downloading
[ROM] +++ Liquid Smooth ROMS 3.0 FOR MULTIPLE DEVICES +++ - RootzWiki

Liquid 3.0 and going to try to flash that when i get home.

I did try to just put the new recovery on my sd card and install it from sd card but it aborted.

if you have an AOSP rom i should try let me know? I'll be back around 10pm est

Also after everything is working would it be possible to accept an OTA (i'm assuming the updated roms will allow it to work) I'm just interested in the possible GPS update :P

Liquid is a good rom and I know it flashes fine. I should stll be when you get back. You can flash the OTA rom I wouldn't bother with trying to get the OTA more trouble than it is worth

No you change the name of the zip to PG05IMG.zip and put it on the root of the SD card then boot into hboot and allow it to update. That is a zero not an O

Alright im home attempting to boot again. Just for reference changing recoveries you just put the zip on hte sd card and run it cia CWM?

No, you flash recoveries in hboot. It has to be in the root directory for hboot to find it.

Think of it as a hierarchy: hboot can flash hboot, radios, and recoveries. Recoveries can flash roms and modifcations to roms and ROMS access the memory like an OS normally does. The ROM does not have access to the hboot or recovery partitions. The recovery does not have access to the hboot partition (or the radio firmware). In fact, I think hboot and the radios are stored in physically separate hardware. I think that the recovery is strored in /recovery, but it cannot be mounted by the ROM. Pay attention to my "thinks", as I am not 100% on all of this.
