HELP!! New to tablet and android

I need help. I'm new to tablets and Android. I have been having issues with my Acer tablet. I can't seem to access the files on my flash drive with my tablet. I have many ebooks on my flash drive that I wish to access on my tablet. After placing the drive into my tablet nothing happens. I do not understand how to access the drive. Any and all info would be much appreciated. Also is there any way to rid my tablet of the apps I do not( nor ever plan on) using. Additionally I am having difficulties d/l the update. Thanks in advance.

-in order to get rid of apps you don't want you would have to root the tab. This would allow access to system files to make those changes

-for the usb drive are you using a file manager like es file or something? This is probably the easiest way to see what's on your sd card or usb drive. I use es file. If you decide to use this one tap on the blue sd card icon in the top left corner then look for a folder called mnt that's where you will find all your folders like external sd card, sd card (internal), usb storage, usb drive.

-what is the problem you are having with the download? What happens when you try to download it?
