Help Help!!! New X Owner Super Frustrated

Ramprat

Newbie
Have had the Droid X almost 24 hours and am seriously thinking about throwing it into the wall......

Why can't I add anything to the calendar, it says I must sync 1st but no where can I find how to sync.

I've got the gmail e-mail address and another e-mail address on it (home address using cable intranet provider) and for some reason the home address shows up as primary & I can't change that.

All I want is a calendar of some kind that I can put my daily schedule on and then if at all possible show up on one of the main screens so I can tell at a glance what's going on for the day.

Heck, it's only 2-3 things a day normally, nothing business related...just my work schedule (have 2 jobs) along with birthdays and such....

What am I doing wrong....:(:(:(

To sync calendar, go into settings>accounts>your google email account>select sync calendar. You google calendar will sync with your phone automatically. If you want to show calendar events on your homescreens, you can add a widget. Moto blur comes with a calendar widget. To add it, press and hold on homescreen> select widgets from pop up menu> select calendar. You can resize the widget to fit your needs.

There are also other calendar widgets available on the market for you to buy and download, such as pure calendar widget agenda or android agenda widget. They offer more options and customizations compare to the blur calendar widget.

Hope that helps

dylo22, found the settings>accounts>your google email account>select sync calendar and did it & then went to the calendar and tried....it told me I must 1st sync the thing.....

Will have to give one of the other apps you mentioned a try

We just talked about this same issue a week ago, If I find it, I'll link you to the thread.

I had the same problem with my Wife's D2, The fix was to add another gmail account to the phone, then make sure the calendar was synced on the primary account and delete the added account (I was able to use mine on her phone then delete it). I don't know what the glitch is about, but that fixed it straight away.

ETA...I guess I read it here...last post http://androidforums.com/droid-x-su.../232114-droid-x-n00b-needs-calendar-help.html

big help for a new user...read the manual...

Great idea, thanks much for you valuable help....it's guys like you that make us new guys feel so welcome to your private little forum where new guys and new questions are not wanted.........And yep your idea would work....if the phone came with a manual.....

The problem you are having is definitely not normal... and I'm sure once you figure this out, you will love the phone.

I'm sorry I can't be much help, but once you do get it running, I highly recommend you look at the app "Jorte" - it's a fantastic calendar, much better than the one that comes with the phone! :)

Have you tried opening the calendar associated with the account online? You may need to enable it first... Long shot, but worth a try.

Actually, sir, it does come with a manual.

I have to agree that "read the manual" by itself is a smug and unhelpful response. Adding a link to the manual might be somewhat more helpful.

ekyle's suggestion is a good one. Try fixing the problem through settings on your gmail account rather than on the phone.

Sorry as I'm DX stupid can not get the factory installed calender to work, have tried a couple different ones in the market and get a different message each time all saying something to the extent of

no calendars, you have no calenders or that I need to sync..

I've gone into settings...accounts....gmail....sync gmail and sync contacts mutiple times with no joy...:(:(

Really can't figure out what's going on.

Another thing I've noticed, unless I sync the gmail it does not pull or check gmail...but the other POP mail server account is working fine...almost...need to figure out my send settings, but it's receiving fine now...

I have found the on line down loadable manual here and have read it...and have gone to gmail and tried changing the settings..this is also my 1st try at a gmail account...

Was a real pain setting up the pop account, don't want to delete it...unless that's the only thing I can do...

Going to have to try the above.....

Daughter just come over....she has a LG Alley and we did the e-mail trick adding her accoount and then deleting it...and now it works....

Strange this glitch...:eek::eek:

You'll also need to go to your gmail calendar on a Computer and validate your phone to get things working properly.

Go to gmail, click on calendar (upper left corner of the page).
Click settings (upper right corner of the page) and click calendar settings.
Now click mobile setup (towards the upper left) and follow the directions.

One last (hopefully) question

To get gmail delievered to the phone I need to sync each and every time.

How can I set the phone to automatically sync every so often, still struggling with that..:(:(

On the phone

Click the menu hard key (left one of the bottom 4)
Touch settings
Touch Accounts
Touch your Google gmail address
Make sure all options have a check mark in them. (Contact, Gmail, Calendar...you may have more depending on what's been added to the account, but those three are default)
Back out to home screen (half circle arrow, 2nd from the right hard key)

Now

Click the menu hard key (left one of the bottom 4)
Touch settings
Touch Data Manager (wait, it might take a bit to come up)
Touch Data Delivery
Make sure all three options have a check mark in them (at a minimum, Background data should be checked)

Ignore Email and Corporate Sync for now, it doesn't effect Gmail.

Now back out (half circle arrow, 2nd from the right hard key)
In a large blank spot on one of your home screens, push and hold till the menu comes up.
Touch Widgets
Scroll down and touch Power Control
That should add a widget to that home screen with 5 options.
From left to right...Wifi, Blutooth, GPS, Sync, and Brightness.
Make sure the Sync (circle arrows) is highlighted

That should fix you up for gmail...I hope (crosses fingers)

When I go into google gmail address there are no options to check anything, this is where I can sync contacts, sync gmail and sync calender. nothing else.

Have never seen this widget before, the one that came on the droid is wifi, bluetooth, gps and airplane mode.

Deleted the stock bar, like this one better...

As soon as the new widget bar came up and the sync was highlighted got gmail, that sure looks like what I was missing & never realized existed...

Thanks so much!!!:D

Sorry man, gave it to you in the wrong order.
Now that you have the sync highlighted, go back into your account like I've quoted...you should now have the option to check or un-check what you want synced.

Another place to check for what's synced with the calendar...
Go to your app drawer, touch calendar. Press the menu hard key, touch more, and touch calendars. You should be able to select what parts of your calendar you want synced/visible, synced/not visible, or not synced, not visible.

I think that should just about take care of your syncing issues...unless you have another type of email account you are setting up on the phone...they have different settings...you'll see what you click on the other email address in accounts.

Don't stress the comments about RTFM...the phone DID NOT come with one, I had to order it from Motorola's website...I've never opened it. There used to be an electronic copy stickied at the top of the forum...not sure why it was removed:confused: Anyway, ask your questions, this site and the people on it, have all the answers.

Everything seems to be working great now, finally got notification of your reply and that's the 1st time it's happened :D:D

Found the link to order the manual and did, along with downloaded the PDF one I stumbled across here, did learn some but just not how to solve my issues.

Thanks again, I'm starting the synced happy dance :D:D:D

Guys, I know its hard, but please try to remember that at one point there was a time that you didn't know what you know now. Just because someone has a top of the line phone, doesn't mean they have spent the last year with their heads burried in online forums about android. We were all noobs once.
