Help!!! Newbie Here.. :)

Hi.. Good day to you all.

Got myself a new Samsung Note 2 & Man, was I so amazed with it. Best phone i had so far!! Switched from iPhone to Note 2 cause i noticed Android's range of apps. And i have to admit, most of them are offered for free. :-)

Now, this is my concern. Just bought a 64Gb microsd since my Note 2's memory is only 16Gb. Just learned that you can't just move apps to sd unless you root them. I've been contemplating on this for quite some time now. What do you guys suggest? should i root them or not? I really don't know the pros & cons of rooting that's why i'm quite hesitant at the moment. Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Secondly, I switched to Android cause of it's ability in terms of customization. I really wanna change the feel on my unit that's why i installed some apps for customizing. Then i stumbled upon Elixir 2. Installed it. Now here's where my problem lies. I want to make a widget for my external sd card. When I try to make one, a pop up comes out & it asks for a path. In the box provided it says /storage/sdcard0. When I accept it & press OK, what comes out is my memory on my internal storage. Is there something wrong? Why is it that the phone's internal memory comes out instead of the external? Or maybe, i entered the wrong path? If so, can you guys help me out of this one.. Please.. Really need your help here. This thing is killing me... :(

Thank you guys & I'm hoping to hear from you. Good day!

Hi and welcome to AF!!! I offer no advice yay or nay regarding rooting. I'm an advocate of getting to know your phone/Android first before delving into areas you're unsure off.

I have no idea what Elixir 2 is but the internal storage is sdcard0 and the external storage (card) is extSDCard.

Still not working.. Poor me.. I guess there's something wrong.

Anyway, can you guys recommend a widget that can do the same also? I just want to add a widget for my external sd card. Wanna check regularly if i'm almost near it's limits.. :)

I'm just getting the hang of widgets myself.
I wish I could be of some real help but what you're trying to do is beyond my realm of knowledge.
Don't fret.....the widget gurus around here will be able to help you out.

I don't think there's any widgets to move to the SD card. How widgets work and all they're stored on the internal memory. Only widgets I can suggest to try is Go widgets. :)

So what do you want the widget to do? Is it tell you what space you've got left? If so I use Minimalistic Text for this, which can display both "internal" and "external" sd card space, but there are also many other system info widgets in the Play Store. However, I don't have a Samsung so can't say for sure which would work for you.

Is there an ideal spot for general noob questions? I'm completely new to Android and i'm not sure if my questions are best suited in the Note 2 section or the general section. For example, I was trying to stream the 121212 concert last night from their website on my Note 2 and it kept erroring out saying "decode error" or "video could not be played". My GF's iphone 5 had no problem and my iPad mini didnt either and all devices were on my home wifi. As you may have guessed, i really only have a history of iPhone use, but was bored with iOS. My question is 1.) Is there a preferred spot for newbie questions like this or should I keep to the Note 2 section since that's what i'm using? and 2.) is there a reason why the Note 2 wouldnt handle a live video stream that worked instantly on 2 iOS devices? Sorry but i'm doing my best to be patient and work through the new Android user phase. Thanks!

Just wanted to add that Samsung Galaxy was a sponsor of this concert, which I found a bit funny when I couldnt stream it on my Galaxy Note 2, just saying, could certainly be user and not hardware.
