so i ran unrevoked and it got all the way up to rooting.... then it stopped and said firmware version to new???? and stopped so what do now?? i really just wanna unroot and it says S-off as or right now... so what do i do please help... also theirs no clockwork recovery method please help.

Have you tried rerunning it? That the first thing you should try. Otherwise, do you htc sync uninstalled, av disabled, etc.? It probably wouldn't have gotten as far as it did if that was a problem, though. Try rerunning it, and if it doesn't work, there are a few things you can check, or you can finished the process manually.

That's pretty unlikely. Do you want to unroot, or actually get your phone rooted? If you want root, start by rerunning unrevoked. If you really just want to unroot, I can help you with that as well. Keep in mind that unrooting will wipe everything out (if done the complete way.)

thats fine i wanna unroot cause this is freaking me out. cause i bricked my first evo and i dont wanna do it to my second one....

i rooted it correctly using a manual method but when i installed a new custom rom i didnt delete my old one and i kepted trying different roms and i wasnt doing the system wipe and so then the micro usb port stopped working and i couldnt get into recovery anymore

It's highly unlikely that your can brick the phone with unrevoked. It already did a major part of the process by giving you S-OFF. Try this one thing really quickly. Boot up normally, then install the terminal emulator from the market. You can get it here:

Android Terminal Emulator - Android app on AppBrain

Open that, then type "su" without quotes, then enter. If the prompt changes from $ to #, all you need to finish is Clockwork recovery, and you may as well keep root (unless you still want to unroot at that point). If you get a permission denied error, and the prompt doesn't change, unrevoked only got as far as giving you S-OFF. If that's the case, unrooting should be pretty easy. No matter the case, also see if you have the Superuser app in your app drawer. If you want to unroot, and you still get a permission denied error at the prompt, you can probably get away with flashing the unrevoked s-on tool, then flashing the stock recovery back (which it probably wiped out). That should sufficiently unroot the phone. You could also flash a PC36IMG.zip that contains a RUU to fully wipe everything to ensure beyond any doubt that nothing remains from trying to root. Try the terminal emulator/superuser app thing first. We can take it from there.

So, sorry; I had to leave unexpectedly last night. Ok, so here's what you need to do:

1) Flash Clockwork 2.6.0.1 found here:

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html

There are instructions in the thread on how to flash it. If you have trouble with that, let me know. Once it is done, go to recovery from hboot, and you should have clockwork 2.6.0.1.

2) Copy the S-ON tool to the root of your sdcard. You can do so by connecting your phone to your computer as a disk drive and copying it over. Basically, however you copied the PC36IMG.zip in step 1, do that with this file. You can get it here:

http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/current/unrevoked-forever-son.zip

3) Go to recovery from hboot, then select the option to install (flash) a zip from the sdcard. Select the s-on tool. Once it is done, reboot back into hboot and verify that it now says s-on.

4) Assuming you get s-on, you now have two choices. Normally at this point, to fully remove root and clean everything up, you should flash a PC36IMG.zip that contains a full RUU to wipe everything and remove root in the ROM. Since unrevoked didn't get that far, it's up to you if you want to flash that and be 100% everything is cleaned up OR just flash the stock recovery back. If you don't even have the Superuser app, flashing the stock recovery should be good enough. Like I said, it's up to you. I'll give you both links.

a) MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
b) PC36IMG_Recovery_3.70.651.1.zip

The first one contains a full RUU and will wipe everything on your phone. If you flash that, there will be no doubt that you have unrooted the phone. The second one is the stock recovery. If you flash that, you'll still be fine accepting OTA updates from this point on, but I can only be 98% sure that you're fully unrooted. Since you apparently don't have Superuser or root access in your ROM, it's probably good enough. I'll leave it up to you to decide which one you want to do. They are PC36IMG.zip files, so follow the exact same instructions in the first link where you flashed Clockwork.

Let me know if you have any questions about these steps.

im retried unrevoked and got full root thanks for the help i will use this for when i want to unroot because right now my phone is working and im going to leave it at that thank you so much though this forum and you saved me from making dumb decisions.

Excellent :). I figured that might do it for you. Yeah, go ahead and keep this information should you want to unroot. It's also in the Rooting for Dummies guide. Keep in mind that you will need to flash the PC36IMG.zip with the full RUU, though. Don't flash the stock recovery one now that you have full root. Let me know if you have any more quesitons. Congrats on rooting :).
