Help on customizing my htc evo?

blaqfyah

Lurker
I just got my evo and have been using this site to try and customize my evo. Unfortunately my abilities are very limited and i would love to know were i can go to pay to get my evo customized.

In what way? Rooted? (There's a root forum within the HTC EVO forum)

Even without rooting, there's a whole shitload of customization you can do;

Live/static Backgrounds, moving icons around, folders, widgets, clocks, ringtones, notifications, alternate MMS/SMS apps, take away lock screen, Alternate music apps, mail apps, etc, etc.

I too am confused at what you want to do here. I guess I would much rather learn how to do these things myself, which is why I don;t understand your wanting to pay someone. I'd sooner ask a friend and take them out for a beer than pay some stranger to do it. The beauty of Android is that you can tweak things as you go or leave them as they are. It's up to you!

Unfortunately most of my friends have blackberry. And this is my 1st week with the phone. I'd even be willing to take class or something. Reading the steps on the web and trying to do it myself is not so much fun.

Just browse this site and take it slow. Paying someone or taking a class (lol?) is not the answer.

I would suggest playing around with the different launchers, like ADW and LaucherPRO and Zedge for backgrounds and ringtones. Install one from the market and play around with their features. From the sound of your experience I would stay away from root, especially since you hate reading information on the web, you kind of need to know what you're doing if you play with the core code of the phone. ;)

Anything you can think about doing to your phone, someone has already done if it was possible, and most love posting how-do's.

If you really have money burning a hole in your pocket you can ship me your phone and I'll do whatever you like to it. haha.

I really just want to take my phone into a shop and choose a design and have them create it for me.

Do you live in the states? I can honestly say I have never heard of such a shop (except maybe in Chinatown Los Angeles LOL!) Aside from someone doing some personal listings on Craiglist or something I am not sure you will find something like this.

hi and welcome to the forum.

to answer your question..
you can look on craigslist.org for a person that will ROOT your phone and load any ROM and Theme you want. They charge around $50(i think).
*** I do not recommend this route***

Trying to find some customization (non-root) methods first. Like new Launchers will replace the HTC Sense. Is a good start.

If you do want to ROOT your phone later... I agree with others.. Learn to do it yourself. So that you know what you are doing.. and how to fix or change later. Once you try new ROMs/Themes/mods.. you will not be stop at just one. and going to a hacker... you will be pay them many many times.

I've seen postings on Craigslist that say they will root your phone for anywhere between $30-50. Same as modding the Wii and 360. Some people will pay to do this because they really have no idea what they are doing. I would not really trust anyone else to do it. I'd rather learn myself so I know exactly what's going on. But having classes? Lol. Android Customization 101.

I'm a newbie, but this phone is my baby.. I hope you like it.

If your new to the phone and really don't know what to do with it, I would recommend against rooting. Just play with your phones, how to get widgets out, read around, or you can check some resources from other sites like HTC, YouTube, CNET, or your user's manual. :D

Anyway, the phone is very intuitive and very easy to use, I hope you'll be over the learning curve in no time. Best advice I can give you is enjoy the experience of discovering what your phone can do. :)
