ok I need help I want to upgrade to 2.3 android and root if it is a legit source I have found is it possible and if not how do I upgrade to android 2.2.2 to root it from there? Thanks!

go to LG website and download the update tool..that will get you 2.2.2....then go here http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-...-kit-optimus-m-2-2-2-dummy-proof-3-click.html that will get you rooted with custom recovery.from there you get to go to the all things root section,and go shopping for roms,and all kinds of tweaks...

Unless your phone has reboot issues, I would stay on 2.2.1 as it is easier to root and has more support as of right now (custom recovery, kernals, roms, etc).
To root 2.2.1, download/install Gingerbreak.apk (google it) and run it (making sure usb debugging is enabled).
After that, install a custom recovery (look in the all things root stickied threads); IMO clockworkmod is the preferable recovery (as opposed to Getitnowmarketing recovery)
Once this is all said and done, install one of the CM7 (2.3) recoveries. You have your choice of Reppard's, PlayfulGodz, or BobZHome's versions. All have their unique pros and cons. Try each one and see which one you prefer.
