Hello, im a new owner of the X8. I ve been desperately trying to put my contacts in order with very little success so far. After an extensive Google - forum search i didnt find a complete and comprehensive guide of how to properly categorise all the people I know, and this is my final resort!
My ultimate goal is to organise my contacts once and for all, to try and connect all accounts together, to eliminate duplicate entries, to get everything working
So here is the story so far :
Old phone was a Nokia and bought new X8 with android 1.6
In order to transfer contacts from old phone to new (number was larger than SIM card capacity), I imported contacts to outlook, exported them to a csv file, uploaded to Google Contacts.
Issue No 1: I can only assume that i created some duplicates during that step, since i didnt erase contacts from sim card. I found no way to isolate SIM card contacts on X8. I suppose Phone Contacts refer to internal memory stored entries and not specifically SIM card.
From then on, i decided to try and link all this to Facebook, therefore after a quick search I used SyncMyPix, which performed beautifuly.
Then I found out that Android 2.1 was available for my device and decided to upgrade using the Update Service.
When the update was complete, I synced my X8 to Google Contacts again and i found out that automaticaly my X8 matched Facebook contacts with Phone Contacts presumably according to names. I found no obvious way to manually connect Facebook Contacts with Phone Contacts where names did not match. I did not try update all my contacts with their E-mails manually since i have too many of them and not everyone keeps their Email public in Facebook. I signed up with Sony erricsson Sync, which did not have a solution to offer since I didnt find a Contact Management Interface anywhere.
Therefore ISSUE No2: How do I manually connect Facebook Contacts to Phone Contacts ? When i select a contact and press Edit, there is no such option. If I press the Timescape infinity button, Again no such option.
Question - Issue No3: When I select a contact and then press Edit, there are usually 2 different sections underneath. One reads Phone Contact and the Other reads Google. The information is usually similar or in cases one contains home number and the other mobile number. What is the difference between them? Does that mean that if i update the phone version, this will not be synced with Google Contacts? What is the ideal Setup, where every change i make on my phone is reflected in the Google Contacts automatically?
Sorry for the Wall of text, hope someone will help out, and others will be helped in turn.
