Help HELP - phone not turning on.

hello

So only got the phone the other day. Today i downloaded the PC software to upgrade software on my phone.

The pc software was preparing my phone, but it took ages on step 2 ("prepare"). Eventually it came up with a message to try several steps;

1) Disconnect phone from usb
2) make sure battery is above 50%
3) Turn phone off and wait 5 seconds
4) Plug usb cable into PC
5) Insert usb into phone while pressing the volume button

After doing all this nothing happened and now my phone will not run on whether its connected to my PC or not.

update.

removing the sim and trying again seemed to work.

must be a hard reset of something
