Help Help, phone won't sync.

I gave my HTC Droid Eris running 2.1 to a friend.
It worked fine, I factory reset it before I gave it to him. Now that he has it is set up and running, FB will not sync the contacts and the market will not connect with the google play website. I had no problems with any of this when I had this phone and it's been this way since we first set up the phone for him. I have looked all around and can't find any answers of how to fix this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does any of this work on a WiFi network?

If not, two things that I would try:

1. Try another factory reset and see if that fixes the problem.
2. Call Verizon Wireless tech support and make sure that the phone is properly activated on his account. Explain the situation to them and see if they can sort it out.

Nothing will sync on wifi or 3g, but everything else seems to work just fine...
