Company is ordering new phones for all of us TODAY. I love my D1 and will probably not activate whatever they get me, but I need to pick a phone by days end. So what to get??????
D2 global?
X?
Incredible?
Samsung Fascinate?

Please help, I have no idea

As I stated, I have no real desire to upgrade, but they are just going to upgrade our phones so I have to pick something. In reality, it will just sit in the desk, until I break my D1 or one of my kids breaks one of their phones.

man you are loyal to your d1 haha. if you love it that much i suggest just getting the droid 2 global because its basically the same phone as the d1 but with a faster processor and the keyboard is redesigned.

I thought of that, but to be honest, wifey has the D2 and I cant stand her keyboard. They moved all the keys around and lets just say I don't handle change well:confused:

With a multimedia dock and car dock, the X is very tempting. The only thing that stops me from upgrading is the encrypted bootloader. But people swear by the sheer screen real estate. Depends on what you want to do with it, I guess. What a great dilemma to have... Happy choosing! :D

As always, please post your needs/wants or we'll have no idea either. Smartphones aren't one-size-fits-all despite what the fanboys think. Have you compared the features/specs? Have you checked these devices out in person to asses your preferences for the physical characteristics?

Yea, I know, if this is the biggest problem I have to deal with today I guess I shouldn't complain. Thanks for the advice.

Do you root hothead? Since I've read that Moto really locked the bootloader so that it's much harder to root their phones, so you might want to see if the DX or D2 can be easily rooted. Seems like you don't like the keyboard. Do you like Sense, Blur or TW? The Incredible is nice but a bit 'older' compare to the other 3 phones but it and the SF is easily rootable. Do you prefer 3.7" (Incredible) 4" (SF, D2) or 4.3" (DX)

Read a few reviews and see what *flaws* you can handle. That's how I pick my phones, can I LIVE with all of its flaws. Then go into the store and play with the phones and see which one you like the build/feel etc.

I would say the X or the Fascinate.

If you are sticking with the D1, might as well get something as different as possible. I have played around with the X a little bit, and it seems to be a nice phone, especially for multimedia. But like mentioned in earlier posts, if you plan on rooting, while I don't believe it is impossible, it is definitely not easy (correct me if I am wrong).

I have also had a chance to use Samsung Mesmerize (U.S. Cellular Variant), which was a nice phone as well. Samsung did a really nice job with a lot of the stock apps, reducing the need for additional apps for mms, email, calendar, etc... But Samsung is notorious poor for updating to the latest and greatest version of Android. Unless I am mistaken, I believe it is still at 2.1. Also, from what I read, Verizon really did a number on this phone with the bloatware.

I guess I would probably still go with the Fascinate, since it would be the most different from the D1...

Wow so a X phone would be harder to root than the Fascinate?
Well you just help me make up my mind for my thread!
Thanks!

Get a Fascinate to the OP above. :)

Sorry I used the word 'root' incorrectly. I think of rooting as the 'full work' i.e. unlocking the phone to use the SU permissions as well as load custom ROMS and what not. Root seems to be just SU permissions and if that's what you want, the X is rootable.

Do you know if the devs were able to break the bootloader encryption on the X then? Are you able to load custome roms or do you just have SU permissions?

This is the most recent article I was able to Google about the X's bootloader: Motorola Droid X rooted, bootloader still in lock-down | TG Daily Not sure what's the new news on this is, if there's any.

Oh...the Droid 2 also has the 'bootloader lock' issue: http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/07/14/motorola-to-lock-droid-x-and-droid-2-bootloaders/

If this will be any help to you, I was with friends over the holidays who had several different popular Droids. One had the Fascinate and everyone there fell in love with it. It's a nice size, a bit bigger than most, very thin and sleek in design. The features are awesome and it's lightening fast. If I were going with Verizon that is the phone I would choose. I don't have a company that provides my cell phone so I opt for a cheaper service and phone. I have the Huawei Ascend and it works great. The only thing I don't like about it is the camera has no flash.

The Fascinate is beautiful and has an awesome performance!

Good luck!

I was going to say to just grab the D2 since it is very similar, but read you don't like the kayboard changes. Funny thing is pretty much everywhere I read, people say it was improvements around the board!
