Root HELP PLEASE! DHD Bricked? Tried to DEBRAND WITHOUT GOLDCARD

jinjamal

Newbie
So my DHD is stuck on the black screen with HTC logo and an error symbol in each corner. This happened after trying to install an unbranded stock RUU on my DHD which is branded and is on Vodafone AU with 2.2 and 1.32.178.5. I read that somebody else fixed this problem by reinstalling the original software with RUU. However i can only find my exact software in a zip, not RUU...Also i don't have a gold card.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have no idea what to do now.

When I unplug from usb i see this:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.85.0007
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot

As far as I can see, that guide is wrong. This is the tried and tested guide that should be followed for initial debranding.

Sombre's post here gives the stock Vodafone AU Branded RUU. I'm not sure what effect that will have on your phone in it's current state though.

As an aside, the "guide" you used was posted by a random, on some blog that no one (aside from the author) has confirmed as working. I don't want to come off as preachy, so sorry if I do, but it's always best to take a look at users comments when you follow things like this. They're normally a good indication if the instructions are any good or not.

yeah it was stupid of me. Also, that link you gave me is actually for a zip...not ruu. unfortunately i cant find an RUU version!

Not stupid, naive. What's important is what we do now to try and fix ;)

Have you downloaded that one already? It might have the .exe within the .zip.

I'm donwloading now to take a look, but it might take a while.....

first of all, i cant actually turn it off. so ive tried taking the battery out and putting it in again, then i turn it on and im at the same screen. also as i said in first post, when i connect to usb then desiconnect from usb i get a white screen with those stats.

From the screen you've described, that's the boot menu. Is that the only writing you see on the screen or is there anything else? Do you see an option to factory reset? Although I'm not sure factory resetting would make much difference.

It sounds as if it's at least registering a connection to the PC, so there may be some way of forcing the zip file onto the phone via adb, but I'm not experienced enough to offer any advice on how to do that, sorry.

it does say 'RUU' underneath all those stats, it is highlighted in orange. apart from that, nothing else. and nothing happens when i click any buttons.

Well, you're not "bricked" as far as I can see so that is something at least.

As I mentioned above, there may be a way of forcing the Vodafone AU zip file onto the handset via adb, but I can't offer any advice on that. Someone else here might be able to assist. I see you've posted the same issue on XDA, but you might get a better response in the Desire HD section.

No probs, sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

Can you leave a comment on the guide you linked too as well. See if the author has anything to say?

I'd hate for other people to fall into the same trap.

So i sent my phone in for Vodafone to repair. They sent it back unrepaired as they somehow knew it had been tampered with. I'm once again stuck, would a repair shop be able to fix my phone? any idea about cost?

I think they probably sent it back without doing anything, as they could tell that you'd tried to root it.

You could take it in to a high street phone repair shop, but I'd defo ask how much it'd cost to get done, not just let them do it... I'm sure that someone on here/XDA would be able to offer a bit more help though, so you should be able to do it yourself!

Know that this doesn't actually help too much, but it's just info for you!

so i've given up and handed my phone into a repair shop, if they fix it they'll charge $120. If they can't, i think i'm pretty much screwed. I'll post back in approx. 3-4 days with results. Suggestions are still welcomed in case it comes back unfixed.

Here's hoping they can sort it... don't know if $120 is a good price or not (not up on how much that converts as).

Will wait to hear from you!!

I finally got my phone back from the repair shop, They couldn't fix it. I'm once again stuck. Any suggestions?

Right from what I have read would I be right in thinking you can gain access to the bootloader by powering off your device and turning it on with the vol down button held??

Have you tried factory reseting the phone or loading recovery?

Have you tried downloading the software from HTC and connecting the phone top the PC and running the update?

yes it doesnt work. i think it would only work with the exact software which was branded Vodafone AU rom, and i cant find RUU for that. im pretty sure the reason even the stock RUU wont work is because i dont have a goldcard, and obviously cant make one :(
