Root help please? im a little hesitant about rooting

Okay, so I have an LG Optimistic V. Im not too much of a tech guy. I just paid for this phone a couple of months ago..and I want my money's worth, don't we all? >:]
Model-VM670
Android version-2.2.1
Kernel vrsion-2.6.32.9
I have no computer my phone is my world. No ways to fix screamo ups with a desktop. I really want to root so I can:
-possibly get a full functioning updated android version 2.2.2
-increase battery life
-get more internal memory
-have a faster processer? I also need to know how to do that
-have all apps on SD card

Please any information is helpful. Download links are amazing please. Im 14 please don't redirect me to another thread please give me super detailed step by step I've never done this before. I spent from 12am to six searching this site for something that made complete sense to me. Im not dumb...be honest, this is confusing to a first time guy right? I just don't wanna brick my phone. Please help!

And I also want to back everything up so I can always return to stock
 
You need to back up your apps using a Drop Box account. Then make sure you read this thread http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...ide-rooting-without-computer.html#post2985787 .
The Root of the sd card means just not putting it in a folder, but putting it near the bottom of the list of file folders. The three Items that will be put on the the root of the sd card are the Gingerbreak.apk.the flash_image, and xionia recovery(xionia is great for flashing Froyo based ROM's,but not gingerbread).All of these need to be uncompressed(unzipped)
USB debugging has to be turned on or the exploit(Gingerbreak.apk)wont work.
Step #3 If it takes more than 12min. then pull the battery and try again(this will count for a reboot).It may take a few tries to get it to work,but it will not harm your phone(I used this very method). You must reboot after every failed attempt.If you get an error message than reformat the sd card(this will wipe all data from card which is why you set up dropbox account).Also make sure the sd card is not over 4G. If you use the stock sd card and you have not changed the settings on it then you don't have to worry.

Step #6 the up/down volume controls navigate thru the menu in recovery. The home button or the menu button is the select button. If you use one and the screen goes blank just hit it again and use the other button.
If you decide you want to try a Gingerbread ROM (all CM7,CM7-IHO,and ath3nos's) then you will need to use ClockWorkMod recovery v3.2.0.1(not 3.2.0).You can get it here http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-3.2.0.1-thunderc.img . It will need to be uncompressed and put on the root of the sd card. Change the name of it to just recovery.img and make sure in line 5 of the code you type in recovery.img instead of vrecovery(I would keep both recovery's on the sd card as they might come in handy at any time. You can come back to the tutorial and type in the 1st line(su),2nd line,then the 5th and 6th line of the commands.

This is the easiest way so far,and will not brick your phone. Do not use the Sticky on the same subject as its missing to much info. Hope to here of your success in the tutorial thread.

One last thing NEVER EVER USE THE FACTORY RESET IN THE PRIVACY OPTION ON THE PHONE. IF YOU NEED TO, USE THE ONE IN THE RECOVERY

It might take me a little time to find the answer to that question. It's been a while since I had dropbox. I'll try to search some recent threads on the subject for you. EDIT: first set up your Dropbox account. I'll see if I can wrangle up some help.
 
I seem to remember how much of a pain dropbox was in trying to set up. I think now I didn't end up using it. It's up to you, you can run the exploit without backing up your apps or wait. If you lose your apps on your sd card(it's never happened that I've heard of) you can still install them from the market. All your paid apps will be in your my app section. If nobody posts an answer by the time you read this. I let you decide. I do know somebody specifically who used it, but haven't seen them on the forum in a while.
 
Open your file browser of choice, long press on the file/folder to copy and select "Zip this folder." Once the zip is complete long press the zip and select copy from the list that pops up. Then navigate to the dropbox folder and long press and select paste, or if your file browser has the option right on the screen to paste (mine has a paste button).

Or open the dropbox app, browse to the folder you want to upload the file and press menu -> upload -> any file then select your file browser and navigate to the file. (if you use this method you'll still need to zip if you're uploading folders with multiple files)
 
I rooted it successfully shortly after this, but then unrooted before I even did anything because I was scared of breaking my phone, so now im thinking of doing it again and getting a new bootup img, get rid of some bloatware, etc. I know this is am old phone so when I have enough money for a new one ill probably do more like flash rom's. Could anyone give me some pros of that?
 
As soon as you root install a recovery and make a backup of your system (called a nandroid) then if you FUBAR something you can restore your backup.
 
Oh, you mean like when im in recovery mode make a backup? Yeah I did that. And I messed up and accidentially deleted a system app while getting rid of bloatware, but I just restored and I was fine. I guess I don't know what to do next in the rooting world :/
 
Before deleting a bloat app freeze it wait a day or three and a couple reboots to make sure the device performs without it.

After I was rooted for a while I installed a custom rom and my Optimus went from being meh to OMFG! With BACKside everything just works. While running the stock rom I'd get random reboots all the time. I could never rely on my device for anything except rebooting when I needed it to work.

I would never use the alarm on it because sometimes it wouldn't turn back on again after a reboot. But once I installed BACKside it was so stable. Sometimes I wouldn't reboot between releases at all (sometimes over a week).
 
Yeah it was just a little mistake, got on a roll and just didn't think about it. Id like to get a Rom that's faster or has a lot of space, but still really stable

BACKside would be the way to go. It is very stable and user friendly! The V does not have a lot of space....there is no changing that. You can use link2sd and partition your memory card for dalvik and app data. There is a thread that guides you through the process.

Get comfortable with your ROM for a few weeks and then if you are still running out of space, read that thread. If you have any questions, ask on the forum here and someone will help you out!
 
+1^ on backside, it has been my daily driver for 4 months now and it is very stable.

I don't have wifi, just running 3g overclocked at 480 min...806 Max with interactive x gov. And it's pretty fast.

I'm really not into using alot of apps, but i have about 30 and still have 126mb of internal space left.

I did delete all of the bloatware, but it only got me about an extra 10mb of space ,still glad to be rid of that mess!!!

I like the 01312012 build of BACKside.
mrg666's latest MiRaGe ROM is pretty awsome right now too.
 
It seemed like the more JerryScript tried to add to the ROM the more bugs it developed. The 01312012 is the most stable of all of JerryScripts ROM's, that's why I use it.
