Root Help please: UnrEVOked not recognising Desire

Hello...
I am new to all this and trying to root my HTC Desire as I fear that it is anyway going to die soon, and this is my last chance to see if I can make it better.

I have followed instructions to the letter so far. Have installed HBOOT drivers which has apparently been successul. Have changed settings on phone re debugging, etc. Disabled anti-virus.

Start unrEVOked, and it asks me to connect the device but does not move beyond that point, despite the fact that the HTC thinks it is connected.

I have tried this several times with no luck. Please...anyone... any suggestions?

Thanks for your patience.

Do you have HTC Sync installed, or just the drivers (you only want the drivers)?

Otherwise can you tell us more about the phone - GSM/CDMA, HBOOT version, current software version?

I installed HTC Synch, and then uninstalled it, leaving just the drivers. It's a GSM phone. HBOOT 0.93.0001. Currently android 2.2. Thanks for any help/suggestions you can make.

Baseband version 32.48.00.32U_5.10.05.30
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-g29e526b htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
Software number 2.17.61.3
Browser version WebKit 3.1

OK, so it's an Orange handset. At least some other people have managed to root that version using unrevoked, though I've found others who had problems, but not the phone not being detected. What mode is the phone in when you run unrevoked? It should be running android (as opposed to being in hboot or fastboot), and on some systems putting it in disc drive mode is more reliable.

IIRC we recommend unrevoked 3.21, which you can get by changing the version number in the download link (open link in new tab then edit url).

What is your hboot version (boot while pressing the "volume down" key)? If it's 0.93 then you could try revolutionary if you absolutely cannot get unrevoked to detect the phone. But not detecting is an odd one. Have you also tried little things like different usb ports (can make a difference actually)?

Thanks for the reply. I've been running it in android, and I've tried both disk drive and charge only settings. I haven't tried a different port (that port worked for HBOOT, and the phone thinks it's connected), but I could try that. Will also check unrEVOked version and try the other if necessary. Might not get the chance to do all this this evening... If not then probably tomorrow. Will let you know how I get on...

OK, I see from earlier in the thread that you have hboot 0.93, so revolutionary is also an option if unrevoked continues to be awkward. If you think you will want to go S-Off then it might be worth trying that anyway.

I have changed the unrEVOked version to 3.21 - still not recognising phone.
Have also tried different port, and disk drive only - still no result.

Could there be something wrong with the drivers? (Sorry I have no idea how these things work). How would I determine whether they are causing the problem.

Well you'd look in device manager for Yellow exclamation marks. If you installed teh HTC sync drivers and the hboot drivers when following the guide, it shouldnt be an issue.

i have the exact same phone, orange, hboot 93
just about to run unrevoked, but wondering if you got it working!!!!
