so i seem to be a little lost... i downloaded the non rooted GB yesterday and am loving it but id like root. So i downloaded the update zip found in the root guide to get me back to 2.3.340 BUT im not able to get the update to run through recovery at all keeps giving me the error and sending me back to the reboot options in recovery any ideas? would someone be willing to walk me through step by step what to do in this thread?

You have to install it on your computer, then just run the program

plug your phone into your computer, and then click the browse button on the right side of RSD and browse for the SBF file

do i do something special with my phone? does it need to plugged in and off? does it need to be in recovery?

Turn off your phone, then boot into the bootloader by holding Volume Up + Camera + Power.

Once you do that your phone should show up in RSD Lite, once that happens then click browse then find your SBF

ugh something is wrong with it then cause when i click open it asks me to choose how to open wether throught the web or a list of programs.

holy crap dude thanks... now assuming i get all this going like it is supposed to go do i then just run the GBrooted file as an update through recovery?

Just finish following these instructions that were posted form droid-life.com

9. When it finishes and gets to 100%, power your phone off.
10. Boot into recovery by holding Home + Power.
11. When the triangle appears, hit the Search button.
12. Navigate down to wipe data/factory reset, select it with camera, say “yes.”
13. When it finishes, reboot your phone.
14. Download z4root 1.3.0 and root your phone.
15. Download DX Bootstrap and bootstrap your recovery.
16. Reboot into recovery.
17. Choose “install zip from sd card”, “choose”, then the dxgbrooted.zip.
18. Your phone will now install Gingerbread with root.
19. When you reboot, your phone will appear to bootloop. Let it.
20. If it does it for say, 5 minutes, just pull your battery and reboot.
21. To Boostrap after installing Gingerbread, you’ll need to use the D2 Bootstrapper.
22. Enjoy!
