Hi, I'm new to rooting (but not to android!).

I'm going to buy a nook color, but it seems like all the places I've called have the nooks with the 1.2 update already.

So my questions:
1. Does rooting + CM7 work on mac?
2. Does rooting + CM7 work with the 1.2 update?
3. Is there a certain type or class of microSD cards I should get?

(It'd be nice if I could have some links)

Welcome to the forums.

Rooting is irrelevant of platform. All you are using the PC or Mac for is to create a bootable SD card.

If you plan on flashing CM7, then the version of B&N Android is irrelevant. You'll be overwriting it. Here's the Wiki page for that. One note, Autonooter isn't ready for 1.2. To get root you'll need to use ManualNooter Explained here.

I see no reason why it shouldn't. However they are still flashing 1.1 or 1.0. The 1.2 version boots "Read Forever"
 
Get the fastest SanDisk microSd card you can find, at least a class 4. 32 GB is the largest card you can use with the NC. Might find one at Walmart otherwise there's Amazon.com.

I don't know why you can't flash from a Mac, but not sure what app you'd use for that. The two I've seen mentioned were WinImage and another program so there should be a Mac equivalent.

Also, I needed to root by thursday (going on a trip) so I had to settle
for a lexar class 6 ... I'm hoping it won't be too horrible.
Who knew that costco was closed today! (I was going to buy the sandisk,
but I just settled for the lexar at target cause I have finals this week)
 
I have a quick question. I've been looking all night for the answer to this and haven't found anything. I just bought my NC today and I was happy with everything about the stock OS except its PDF reader.

Anyway, in gathering the info to root it, I saw there were 2 methods, as you have mentioned in this thread. I just want to see which method I should be using.

I haven't done anything to the Nook except register it, and when I go to About your NOOKcolor, it says Software verion 1.2.0 and its serial number is 201152001*******. I couldn't find anywhere that referenced a serial number that looked anything like this. They're all like 1003* or greater.

Does the fact that my serial number starts with 2011 which is much greater than 1003 I should use the ManualNooter method? Any help would be much appreciated.

Software version 1.2 is the latest, which means you cannot use autonooter and must either install a rom like Phiremod or CM7 or use the manual nooter method.
