Root Help please!

I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to roots lol but I but a droid x from someone who already had a root on it. The APEX 1.3 and there is a software update for my phone but every time I try installing I get an error during boot-up... I also want to update to a better rom say maybe cyanogen? I'm not sure how to do this though, any help would be great!

now. If i were you i'd just start fresh. So follow the instructions in the first link if you want to go that route. Does the phone have Titanium Back up on it? If so make a back up of your apps.

Yeah... you need to SBF so your phone can be up to date... 1.3 is an old version of a custom rom. Trophy put my guide in his first link. It will walk you through it step by step.

and then you will be fine. Follow it step by step.

Thanks guys I ended up doing a ton of research and ended putting CM7 on my DX. But now my location services are not working.. Such as weather apps and so on are not finding my location. Know anything about this?
