Help Help please

Hey guys and girls, i've bought my Samsung Galaxy S2 7 months ago from orange. Everything was fine, 2 weeks ago i upgraded my OS to Android 4.0.3 and today i've noticed a few issues:

- When my phone "sleeps", i turn it on and i try to call someone it simply freezes, after a few seconds later, the phone automatically calls that person. It lags..
- Sometimes when i receive a message, i might receive the same message 2-3 times even though the sender only sent me that message once.
- After i read the message, the message icon is still in notification bar / home.

I've tried 5 other SIM cards and still the same thing... by the way, when my phone is charging i don't see any issues... Also, i've tried reseting the phone, i've tried everything lol...

Any help please? :(

Firmware updates through Kies are non-wipe. But that doesn't guarantee you will not encounter firmware problems from clashing of old and new firmwares. If clearing data and cache from the dialer, or message doesn't resolve it, you might have to do a factory reset. You could wait awhile and see if the problem goes away. But if its still there, you probably have to factory reset.

In GB, pressing power+home+vol up brings you to a menu where you have options to wipe cache and factory reset the phone. Not sure if ICS is still the same. Pretty sure someone on ICS will come along to clarify that...

Cheers

It's the same in ICS Russell. I second your recommendations to the OP. :)

Hi, is this method the same as doing a factory reset option under

I believe its the same. In theory, factory reset should also mean the cache is wiped. But maybe certain cache aren't. If that is the case, the factory reset in the settings won't give you the option to wipe cache. Either way, the outside menu method seems a more surer way to me...

That's all.

Thanks. Just to double check before goin through the process.
Wat all stuff to be done before factory resetting the phone?

1. back up photos, videos, music to computer.
2. Sync contacts, apps with Google account.

Please advise if I have missed something. Thank you.

Backup whatever you can. You can copy all the folders in the SDcard (11.5GB phone storage) and the external microSD as well. For example, if you have gameloft games, there is a folder for the games data. That way, you won't have to download the whole game again next time.

I had the same issues and factory reset did nothing for me to help sort them out. Phone is on its way back to supplier now.

thanks. but backing up all the folders and copying it back after the reset brings it back to square one? many files and folders normally stay on even after the app is uninstalled. what i thought was to clear all such junk off the cell and improve some speed and battery life of the cell.

I understand but me thinks clashing of firmwares shouldn't effect data from apps. I guess only programmers will know for sure though.

Its really up to you what files you wanna keep. Maybe those e-books, game files like gameloft games which can be quite huge, and pictures and such. Those are probably safe. Although you could always redownload after reset.

Good luck
