Root Help - Problem using Revolutionary

Lurker
I am trying to s-off and root my Desire 2.3.3. PVT4, erase size 20000, HBOOT 1.02.0001. I have read the various guides/FAQs until my head hurts and am now devotedly following the steps in the relevant guide, but have run into a problem. I have downloaded the HTC fastboot drivers and the Revolutionary S-OFF file from their website, but:

1) when I click on the fastboot drivers exe to install, nothing happens;
2) when I click on the extracted Revolutionary file to run, the black command window appears for a brief moment, then closes again.

Any ideas on why these 2 files are failing to run and suggestions to fix would be greatly appreciated.

its not a fastboot driver, its a hboot driver. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/lib/e...unrevoked.com/recovery/android-usb-driver.zip

Its a zip file NOT an exe. The zip contains .dll files. Not sure what guide you're following or where you're up to. Hopefully you're follwoing the one here?

The fastboot.exe is not a driver thats something else, mentioned in step 3 of matts revolutionary guide. If you follow the guide, follow it to the letter. If it tells you to read something, read it. If you do, you cant really go wrong.

I'm following the FAQs and guides here, where else would I ever need to go? :)

As far as I am aware, I've read, re-read and followed every step of matt's Revolutionary guide to the letter up to the point I have now reached.

I think perhaps I've managed to confuse you (perhaps by using the wrong terms).
The drivers exe I'm having trouble with is the one the Revolutionary website tells me to download, from the page of instructions I'm told to read:
"Windows users, please download and install these HTC fastboot drivers." File name is HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe, which I have downloaded to a folder in My Documents.
I can download them ok, but when I then click it to install nothing happens.

Once I unzip the Revolutionary download I have Revolutionary.exe, which I click to run - the command box opens then immediately closes.

Hope this makes sense. If you need any other info I'm happy to provide it. Your help (and probably patience too!) is greatly appreciated.

Gotcha.

If you Follow this guide:

http://androidforums.com/desire-all...ry-windows-published-4th-november-2011-a.html

You dont need that "Driver". All you need is:

a) Download HTC Sync and uninstall (this leaves the drivers behind but not the program which can interfere with things, you can reinstall it after your rooted)
b) Download and installl HBoot driver (see Unrevoked guide for the download link and guide)

and

) On the Revolutionary page read everything and download the following:

a) Revolutionary zip - save to PC. They will ask for info (currently) on your phone to get a beta key.
b) Root file - place this on your SD card. Goo.im Downloads - Downloading su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip

the .exe you have is not mentioned anywhere in that guide.

ok, other than downloading the extra file I don't need (I thought it was part of the "read everything" instruction, just trying to be thorough!) I've done all of those things. But still when I run Revolutionary it opens then closes again? I've tried re-downloading it in case it was a bad download, still no joy.:(

SUCCESS!!! I'm now s-off.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit what the problem was. I followed every step of the guide, I knew I had even though you were (quite rightly) repeatedly asking. I tried to run Revolutionary again and just caught a glimpse of some text before it closed, that said "HTC sync is not compatible...". But I already uninstalled HTC sync as instructed. Then it dawned on me... I didn't restart my pc after uninstalling, what if....?

So I restarted, ran Revolutionary and hey presto, no problems. :D

Can't believe I wasted a whole morning and pestered you because of such a schoolboy error. So sorry.

Having said that, I've now got to work through the rest of the root process, then got to sort out the best way to create more storage space, so might be back...

it's amazing with many problems on a pc, the first thing i try and always recommend to anyone is a simple reboot.

I know, I know, should have remembered the old "turnitoffandonagain" routine. I got so consumed with checking I'd followed all the steps correctly it slipped my mind. Like I said, schoolboy error.
