HELP! Question and Rooting!!

Hi guys! Can any kind soul tell me how do i root my SGS2 version 2.3.3 GINGERBREAD? Just got it not long. I understand that apps downloaded are stored in the device memory (ard 2GB) or USB storage/SD (ard 11GB) and even if i move to external SD, a portion of those apps remain.

So if that's the case, only rooting the device am i able to fully move the apps from the device memory and USB storage/SD to the external SD card right? Please correct me if im wrong!

In that case, please tell me the steps i need to undertake. Will greatly appreciate your help if u could tell me what to download and best that you could give me the exact links!

I'm from Singapore btw.. Don't knw which carrier i'm using but i guess its international since i dun use AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint.

Cheers!

You need to root with whatever firmware version you are on.
If you only want to root, then find out which version firmware you are on (settings, about phone, build number) and look for it there. Its usually the last 3 characters similar to, for example, KE3, KF1, KG5, KH3. something like that. Then find the matching cf-root file (see 2nd link below)

As you are on 2.3.3, this is quite old, so before rooting, I would suggest upgrading your firmware first. For example, KK5 is the latest, so you may want to upgrade to this first. Full instructions on how to do this can be found here

Once you are upgraded firmware-wise, you can then root your device to the respective version of the root file. Full instructions to do this are here This is known as the cf-root method, and is how 99% of people on here root their device, and is certainly the best and safest method that I am aware of.

Rooting will not necessarily give you the ability to move apps between internal/external cards. it will depend on the app itself. You may already be able to do this on some of your current apps. You may find the "move to sd card" button is enabled on some but not on others. Like I said, rooting will not mean that the ones currently disabled will then be allowed to be moved. There are probably ways around this, but i've not ever wanted to move apps so i have never looked into it.
