Root Help required following root attempt

I posed this problem in reply to an earlier thread. I've done a bit more investigating and started a new thread for it:

My Issue: HTC Desire is stuck on boot-up screen with pink startup logo forever. This is the logo that appears before the green htc logo. My Desire is from T-Mobile.

How it happened: I rooted my device (successfully) using Lekky's guide on Droid-Den (HBOOT 0.80).

I then attempted to install apps2sd using Lekky's guide, however I don't think I created a GoldCard successfully. It was only when I got to stage 'L.' in the guide I noticed that the instructions did not match my system - I was running Clockwork.

I had previously backed up my device using HTC Sync and AppMonster.

Phone state before action: Worked fine before all this and seemingly worked fine after I rooted (SuperUser was installed).

Why I can't solve it myself: I am confident from reading various forums that it's difficult to brick the Desire.

All I can get it to do at the moment is access Clockworkmod & Fastboot.

I have no files under Nandroid.

Any Help would be uber appreciated.

did you take all the data off your card prior? Does it boot without the SD card? If so reformat it and possibly, re-do the partition with 512MB, swap 0, ext3
 
You deleated your post as I was replying! From the other thread:

You have nothing on nandroid because nandroid backups are stored on your SD card, which I'm assuming is now blank. If you can get into recovery you can mount the card and copy back your files from your computer, assuming you backed them up before the format. You should then be able to restore your nandroid backup.

If you don't have a backup, you may be able to find one close to yours online. I know someone found one for a Telus rooted phone.

Otherwise, flash a new rom, or as Dan suggests try and fix the SD card.

I did not take the data off the card.
It does not boot with the card. It does not boot without the card.
I have formatted a SD card in ClockworkMod.
I have no idea how to partition in ClockworkMod!

I have not touched my original SD card. I used a separate card to do formatting etc.

I have just inserted my original card but still cannot find anything within Nandroid.

What do you suggest I do? If it is search for files online, what do I need to be looking for?

Anything that will get my desire back to 'working' will be brilliant!

What are you looking for in a ROM? It may just be worth downloading a custom ROM which has A2SD+ in it from the start, mount the card like Ajanu suggested and flash that from clockwork mod?
 
I assume you are looking for something close to Stock?

Usually, I recommend MoDaCo R8, which I personally find as one of the most stable and its fast too. However, I recommended this to someone yesterday and they had problems with it. It's probably a 1 off as I and many others have good experiences.

I'm not sure what other roms are out there that are close to stock, but it may be worth waiting to see what others recommend.

Neophyte, LeeDroid are names of 2 other Roms I here banded about.

Apps restored via AppMonster.

I now have Froyo on my previously T-Mobile branded Desire.

Too early to say. It seems really fast and I'm waiting to see how apps2sd works out; I have a 16gb card so, in theory, I should never run out of room on this thing.

I was in a blind panic for a short while there but from reading these forums I guess the fear of bricking your phone is something you just have to go through.

If you chose the middle MoDaCo Rom with a2SD+, you have to partition your card. Did you do that?
 
No, and I've no idea how. I'll have a search for a way to do this but if you know an easy way through Clockworkmod then let me know!

Just go into ROM manager, Reboot into ClockworkMod recovery and select partition card. You need to set a 512MB partion with 0 swap (or cache) and if it lets you convert to EXT3, so it.

Just back up your card data on your PC first.

If you downloaded the a2sd+ version of the modaco rom, any app you install will install on this partition.

It may even be worth untinstalling all your apps and reinstalling them
 
just seen this after trying to atch up on my comments, that a2sd guide is only compatible if rooted with the guide i mention at the top, i'll go and bold it to make sure others don't do the same.

I went into ROM Manager and selected 512MB 0 swap. It didn't give me the option to convert to EXT3. It then went into recovery mode where I rebooted.

Am I doing anything wrong? I couldn't establish how to convert to EXT3. Upon investigation, I have a class 2 16gb card. Will this be the problem?

I deleted all the apps as you suggested. I then opened ROM Manager and it said 'Recovery Failure'. I reinstalled the ROM from Clockworkmod. The result was a bit strange as it went through all the motions as before but then re booted with all my settings intact (mail settings, widget placement etc).

I partitioned the card through ROM Manager 513mb and 0 swap (no option to convert to EXT3).

The question is, how do I tell if the card is partioned? Is it as simple as the apps being installed in the SD card or is there something else I need to look out for?

Install android mate. Browse the phone internal memory to data/app. If teh address changes to system/sd/app, and can see your applications there, you know they're installed on SD.
 
Downloaded Android Mate. I then downloaded two games (Angry Birds Lite and Air Control Lite).

Edit:

Air Control is stored in data/app. I can't find where Angry Birds is.

There is no system/sd/app folder.

In 'Manage Applications' Angry Birds is shown as being on the SD card.
 
Hmmm. I'm not too sure to be honest on that. I'm not too up on the apps2sd+ thing really. There are a few here whop know more...
