Root Help! Rom Q's

Okay, had to get a broken droid replaced by asurion..... Its been a LONG time since I originally rooted! Got to thinking, since z4root, another on phone root, and the one click from a pc root ALL failed to root this new phone, can I install a custom rom on the toit of the sd, name it "update.zip" and go in to recovery so the phone installs? I had liquid gingerbread on the phone that died, and I miss it!

Phone is on frg83g, if that helps any.

Thank you!

If I read your post correctly you are not currently rooted? If you are not then you cannot install a custom ROM. The stock ecovery will prevent any non Verizon signed ROM, update, or kernel to be flashed. That is why you have to flash an alternate recovery before flashing the ROM and to flash the recovery you need to have root.

AFAIK SUper-One-Click should root 2.2.2. At least I thought I read that it does. It uses the rageagainstthecage exploit which works. Once you root, install an alternate recovery, and (make a back up), then you can flash the ROM.

Thanks! That answers it. I tried the super one click, and kept getting an error, maybe it does not work with windows 7. I can't believe how hard this is. First time around, it was easy peasy, this time- I spent 5 hours yesterday afternoon between the three root methods I tried, and still no luck.

I thought Windows 7 would work with it (though I am not sure as I am still running XP). Are you running it as an administrator? Also what is your error? Do you have USB Debugging enabled?

Generally the more detailed information you can provided the easier it is for someone here to help you.:)

Yes, please give us more details, unless you have it fixed now. "An error" is like calling the auto shop and saying, "my car won't start, why?"

I used rageagainstthecage on a win7x64 machine and had no issues at all. Do you have the proper, current motorola usb drivers installed? I recall recently reading on these forums that people were having issues using that method with incorrect usb drivers. That might be the root cause of your issue.

http://androidforums.com/droid-all-...oid-without-rsd-lite-up-including-frg83d.html Follow this TO THE LETTER and you should have no issues whatsoever.

Everything written in red, including the spaces in the strings, must be exact- else it will not work. If I recall this method does indeed work with -G as well.
