Root Help Root HTC Cobalt(Aka Thunderbolt)

Hey guys I have an HTC Cobalt(Aka Thunderbolt) from open mobile PR
I tried getting s-off and rootting with revolutionary and the all in one tool but no success. The phone has a very old firmware 1.01.1520.12 710RD and had no success flashing the ruu it says wrong cid.

Is there any way i could get s-off and root this phone???

Any help is appreciated Thanks

Can I use a gold card to change my cid and flash ruu??
and if I flash ruu do i need to flash my network radio for it to be recognized??

a gold card should let you flash one of the vzw ruus, but i do not believe that is neccessary.

revolutionary does not care about your CID,only that you have hboot 1.04 or 1.05.

i would think you could manually run fre3vo as described in the root/unroot thread,or you could use trters tool with the open mobile firmware.

if you did flash the vzw firmware,i believe it should still work on open mobile(tho APNs may need reset),as i ran the open mobile firmware on my vzw TB and it worked fine.

once you are s-off,i *think* you can fastboot oem writecid 11111111 and be able to run the open mobile ruu to get back to your original firmware/radio without the use of a gold card. ill have to plug my TB in and make sure that command is supported.

what is all the info on your hboot screen?

In Hboot
locked
Mecha XD Ship S-On
Hboot-1.05.0000
Microp
Radio-1.49.00.0321r
eMMc-boot

thats all the info

So all i have to do is run fre3vo as described to get s-off and root and then flash the open mobile firmware??

Thanks dude I am now S-off and rooted.
I got a question if I flash a custom rom or ruu then ill have to flash the open mobile radio for it to work right?

awsome! so did you just run fre3vo,then revolutionary? was the gold card needed?

if you flash a vzw ruu,it will overwrite your open mobile radio. it may or may not have an affect on your signal strength and stability, its hard to say. i would prolly advise against running any vzw ruus unless you have an open mobile to run to get you back to stock.

just flashing a custom rom will not overwrite your radio.

if your datA/mms is affected by either a rom or ruu, youll need to reinstall open mobile APNs.

it may not be a bad idea to download apn backup and restore and make a backup of your APN settings now, while everything is working.

yeah i just runned fre3vo then revolutionary(it crashed when it was downloading clockworkmod) so then i used the all in one tool to do the rest
i saw open mobile stock on here to download
is there a way to get a backup of my radio??(my current radio is newer than the one here)

So thanks for the info you really helped me out

there is not a way to back up the radio that i know of. all the ones we have listed for download were pulled from ruus. in a worse case scenario, you could run the open mobile ruu that is available, then OTA yourself back to current. :)

youd just have to leave the stock recovery in place until the ota took place.

if you flashed the older ruu,you actually could capture the ota download, and then we could pic that apart for the new radios. update.zip should be located in your /cache folder after the OTA downloads :)

what is your current build number? i will see if i can locate an ruu for it,or something newer, somewhere.

i will have to look and see if i can find an ruu newer than that, 1.01.1520.0 is the only one i have.

as for the 1x,i would try reinstalling the stock recovery, and then do a factory reset in hboot. failing that,it may be needed to somehow update PRLs

Thanks for the info bro
My LTE is back it has happened to me 2 times that it gets stuck at 1x then 10-15 hr later it gets back to LTE.
So if I do a factory reset i have to unroot via the method in the root/unroot section
so that then i can do the OTA update

No,you don't need to unroot.
install the stock recovery as a pg05img
Factory reset in hboot
Reinstall custom recovery as pg05img.

S off hboot does not interfere, and stays in place.

ok so I can accept the ota without unrooting?

what OTA?

if you have a pending OTA,yes, you can install it while youre running the stock recovery. do NOT install it if you have clockwork or any other custom recovery installed.

if you do install an OTA,youll have to add a couple more steps:
-install stock recovery as a PG05IMG in hboot
-factory reset in hboot
-allow OTA
-reinstall custom recovery as PG05IMG in hboot
-reflash superuser root files in recovery(like after running revolutionary the first time)

the revolutioary hboot will not affect the factory reset,or the OTA.
