Help Rooting My VM Lg Optimus F3

So whats up every one?? Been a while since i messed around and rooted a phone and im only on here to ask for some serious help so i do not mess my phone up and brick it..... I got this phone over a week ago and im on the zv6 update with 4.1.2 .. Im hearing mixed things about rooting this phone and its messing with me and confusing the heck out of me. Im really wanting to root to be able to get more space for apps or should i say be able to move apps to my sd card. I keep hearing you can be rooted but can not flash roms is this true?? Also a good friend of mine said LG phones are different when you flash and that you have to flash the kernel before you flash the rom but im sure he is pretty accurate and would not lie about some thing like that... Im just wondering where to start and where to get all the necessary files to root and so forth.
