Root help rooting this old a** evo 4g phone

i need some help rooting this evo 4g, i tried everything, its so confusing unlike any other phone ive ever had to root, any help would be appreciated..

i have the 2.3.5 and the newest 5.07.651 software, and i have the hboot 2.18..

i tired this method along with a few others
public:windows_hboot_driver_install [RootWiki]

and this method, but i just cant get it to work...

ive also tried the htc dev method too, and i got to the driver installation part went thru it but it just doesent work...
 
yes like i said in the guide thread, all of the methods work. in order for us to help you we need to know exactly where the issue is. the more detail you can give us will help us better to help you.

so like biker57 has asked, let us know what step you are on thatis giving you the trouble and also what error you are getting.

and lets keep the conversation here rather then the guide thread, since you have started this one. no need to have two conversations on the same topic.

when i go into fastboot plug my phone in, and when it says all the files u need adb.exe adbwinapi.dll fastboot.exe, then it says to put them in a folder /android, i do all of that. then it says to find the files it says run the sdk manager, then wait and it will update, i have sdk manager but when it starts and i wait for it to update, then i install android sdk platform tools and android sdk tools.....and it says please update if ur sdk version is r11, but when i open all of that i dont see everything i need to check off, on the screen shot of it on the htc dev site, it shows api13 in one of the shots, and when i go to the same screen i dont see it, its under android version like 3.1, i dident think something was right so i dident continue...but i did the command prompts but i couldent get it to work then the c:/android prompt worked, but the fastboot oem get_identifier_token would not take, and i tried typing it in everyway caps and all, but it wouldent work, finally it did, so when i got to the part where u need to copy and paste the device token it would not paste, and thats as far as i got, so i gave up, i have all the drivers i ever factory reset everything it said to do, i gotta be missing something...


also i dont know where to get sdk manager i have the file sdk-tools but not the manager

ok sounds like you are not copying and pasting the code correctly.

it needs to start and end here:

<<<<<Identifier Token Start>>>>>
and end with:
<<<<<Identifier Token End>>>>>
 
it worked i re did the token, and i guess it was the way i copied it, i was off by half a milimeter haha technology, it said it sent me an email with a unlock key
 
ok so i unlocked the bootloader finally, now what do i need to do


nevermind i forgot about unrevoked, its running now
 
i got cyanogenmod 7.2.0 supersonic, 2.3.7, unlocked bootloader, but my s-on is green, idk how to get it off, i tried the unrevoked forever method but it wouldent flash, i have amon_RA recovery

correct. the only reason why you would need to have s-off now is if you want to use PC36IMG files. these are files that are used to change recoveries, boot animations or splash screens, or updating your radios.

flashing roms and such are fine with s-on.....so it is up to you if you want s-off or not. it really is not all that hard to do.....your call;)

I tried getting it off with the captain method, but I couldn't get it to work

It just wouldent flash, I think it said file not found idk, Its not a big deal tht was awhile ago I dnt remember exactly, I'm not wprried about it now, I just flashed miui 4.1.2 looks cool
