Root Help rooting...

So I'm trying to root my brothers thunderbolt for him on his computer, i donwloaded revolutionary, and the htc fastboot drivers... The revolutionary method is halting at waiting for device and wont find it for some reason... Also when i installed the HTC drivers instead of an option to click finish, or next on the install sheild, it kinda just dissapears, so I dont know if they all installed correctly or not... Ive tried to reinstall and same thing happens after a little bit, any ideas? This is frustrating, shouldnt take this long lol

you are definately having a driver issue. when i installed the unrevoked drivers on my laptop(windows xp),i just clicked and let the wizard install, and it worked  my PC is a lil more confusing,as ive got 3 htc pones, and ive installed htc sync and unrevoked drivers at various times,as well as a universal driver available here on AF. so im not sure what is working with what.

if the wizard wont install them, try updating them manually, using directions here: public:windows_hboot_driver_install [RootWiki]

How can I check to see if i have a ll the pieces still in my phone. Rooted a while back to get rid of the rebooting problem. Now the new ota keeps trying to come thru and keeps giving me a red triangle. I am trying to unroot or add the new rooted gb update but I am having no luck at either.

I'm going to root my phone using the revolutionary method, but I have a few questions before I do. This will void my warranty (correct?), but if I were to un-root later, would Verizon be able to tell that it had been rooted? Is there a third party warranty I could buy for a rooted phone?

I know the revolutionary method doesn't erase any data, but is there any way to backup everything before I root? After I root, is there anything I need to secure my phone (or will superuser be enough protection)?

Finally, is there any specific ROM that will increase battery life? I plan to use the default sense (?) ROM for a while, but I'm considering changing in the future (depending on the features/benefits).

Thanks for any help or advice!

No, Verizon won't be able to tell if you unroot.

Superuser doesn't protect your phone. That being said you don't really need any protection

Battery life is subject to settings and use of phone. There is no "magic ROM". A ROM that gives me 20 hours of use may give you 5 hours. Again, it all depends on how you use your phone and the settings you use

Okay, thanks. The only reason I said superuser protects your phone is becaise you ise that to grant root permissions to apps (unless I'm thinking of something else).

I am not aware of any way you can backup your app data prior to rooting. There are some apps you will need to backup data before changing roms but that isn't something you should worry about yet.

Superuser alerts you of anything trying to get root access

Nice avatar worm!

I have tried that with no luck, thats why I think something has been deleted. I found one thing- Rom Manager app was gone, I just downloaded again. Do you think that is what was giving me problems? Forgive the stupid questions, If you can't tell this just isn't my thing.

After 5 hours I about gave up... Friend of mine came over and had his laptop in his car... Tried it with and it worked flawlessly... I still don't get why the other computers didn't work, did everything the same

What exactly is going on?

I had a hell of a time with my stupid home laptop running Windows 7. Pulled out my work laptop running XP and flew thru it. Don't think the OS had anything to do with it, just think my home Acer laptop is a piece of crap.

since i downloaded the clockwork app, it is making more since. when I download the file do i need to rename or just put on sd card. I have tried both ways and I am getting this error message,
E:Can't open/sdcard/update.zip

help! im having the same problem as guesst. revolutionary just sits and searches for my phone but never finds it. im sure it is a htc driver problem, does anybody have the a link for the htc drivers so i can download them? in the video for this rooting method it does not explain where to get them from, thanks for the newbie support!
