Help Help: Samsung Galaxy S2 won't connect to Kies

After losing a day on that crappy software, trying most suggestions made in this forum (to no avail, needless to say), I tested myphoneexplorer and, after I had installed the beta version (the normal version didn't work for my setup, possibly because I needed MPE to synchronize with Thunderbird which is brandnew) it worked like a charm. The same can be said of birdiesync (but it costs).

A time wasting software like Kies should be forbidden by law! Incredible that Samsung which produces such snazzy smartphones can produce such lousy software.

Hello,

I had the same problem with my GN7000: cancelled an OTA update of ICS 4.0.4 (I had 4.0.3) and had to go with Kies, because the phone did not want to update any more. I have Win7 64bit, istalled Kies and did not recognized my device. I shut the phone down, removed the battery for few seconds, start it back and Kies recognized the phone and i did the update sucessfully.

Good luck!

hi guys. I'm new to this forum. also try to fix problem and I've got it.
I was looking for solution everywhere and I find one which is working for me and I hope will work for U but I'm afraid its involving new android installation
if you upgraded your phone with any of android version probably U make a mistake while doing it. So
1. backup your data from your phone.
2. uninstall kies from computer
3. now if U did copy of everything take your sd card out of your phone (if U got one)
4. wipe out every data from phone (xda guys find out that odin is not doing it completely )
5. download any version of android and odin
6. install it on your phone
7. after all your phone should work fine and connect to kies without any problem.

I don't know what linkage got wiping all data from phone to connecting phone to kies but its working for me.
hope it was helpful.

Instead of looking for complicated troubleshooting solutions, which takes alot of time and most part dont work, and lots of pains in the a**.....DO THIS (eureka, i discovered this because my battery was dieing, and phone went off):
-unplug your device USB cable
-Swith your PHONE off
-Swith your PHONE on
- Plug it back.

Works for me every time kies goes crazy, and also works no matter what windows version you got.

This is fast, easy and worked for me!

hey guys,

I too like many of you have had the same problem with my S2 not connecting with kies and ive tried everything that everyone has suggested on this thread from enabling usb debugging mode, to enabling usb debugging mode and disenabling it right after, tried taking both sim and usb out, tried installing windows media player 11, tried the #7284# dial tone procedure (when i dial the number it simply says "connection problem or invalid MMI code"), tried simply turning phone on and off.

however i tried the one method of going into setting>wireless & network> usb utilities and putting it in usb mass storage mode and the drivers run (the little popup that hardware wizard has found your device) but then it prompts me with a message saying

"Reconnect device in Samsung kies (Pc Studio) mode. current connection mode not supported by kies. Check usb setting-> applications-> development-> usb debugging (x))"

i will follow exactly in these instructions and usually the drivers connect just as before but i get the exact same message prompt even though I just did it....it confuses the hell out of me and i dont know what to do! im about to throw my phone out the window! can some please help me with this ive practically tried all of the previous methods and nothing has worked!
Your message stated that you entered #7284# and got the MMI error. This happened to me also. You have to enter *#7284# and the MMI will run. :-)

Ya'll will NOT BELIEVE THIS.

Finally got Kies to recognize my phone. Thanks God. So I figured the next logical thing to do was BACK IT UP.

The backup process went through e-v-e-r-y step.

On the LAST STEP the program FROZE.

Unfreaking believable.

I am FOUR HOURS INTO THIS NIGHTMARE.

Hello Everyone,
I'm new to this forum, but here goes...

I've read and tried everyone of these suggestions / solutions and none seem to work for me. I do notice something missing though which I'm curious about as it makes me pause everytime I try one of the proposed solutions.... When I plug in my phone via the USB cable (because I have set my USB settings to Prompt what to do) I get a list of options on my phone. I have tried each solution listed here using both "Mass Storage" as well as "Samsung EZUpdater". Now, using "Mass Storage" likely will not work as Kies does not even try and connect to my phone, so I assume I have to use EZUpdater......but no-one above seems to mention this! So, should I be using EZUpdater or not? I have another option available, which is "Media Player" but this does not seem logical either...

I'm pretty frustrated, as is everyone else, with Kies, but I'm still willing to give it a go, so any help would be appreciated... :)

Thanks.

I didn't use Kies from the begining, it never worked. Try this: Settings/Wireless and network/Wi-Fi Direct...(peer to peer connectivity) turn it on. Works for me.

My device had the same issue, I have themes and locker app to personalize my phone. After many hours and forums, I did the following
I closed all the theme apps and locker apps, also deactivate the pattern locker, and very important removed my sd card. After that it worked, Althought no firmware update was found Kies was successfully sincroniced with my phone.
Hope it work for you guys. ! :D

Re-install device driver is all I keep getting, I haven't used kies for some time, I hooked up to upload some pics to computer and no go, updated software nothing, trouble shoot connection error, re-install device driver, I un-installed kies and re-installed it, ive re-installed device driver so many times its beyond a joke, how do I find out why this great kies program decided it no longer wants to work or are we up the creek with out a paddle . . .

im at a loss as to what to do. . . is there a work around ? does any one know of another option that is better than kies ? open to what ever, sick of rubbish in my life. . .

thanks all, forgive my shortness im really annoyed, I expect things to go when I need it to, and last time I used it it was working fine. . . uhhhhh.

I almost dread when Jelly Bean finally gets released. Means I'll have to go through my Kies nightmare yet one more time. I never know what I eventually do to get it to work but it always fails in the middle then I'm in recover mode for hours until finally 5 to 6 tries later, it completes. I was under the impression when I switched from iPhone that the updates were over the air. Guess my friend just meant the app updates.

I wasted way too many hours (more than 10) trying to sync my new Galaxy S2 to Outlook for contacts and calendar. Cbeyond Support, Sprint Support and all the online help refused to work. Finally got to Samsung support who directed me to try K9 mail and some other outlook sinc 4th party app! She had asked if I was using the Samsung USB cable and I had said yes....Then noticed it was from a previous HTC EVO 4G. She then changed her tune completely, said forget K9 and the other and use Kies (Which I had tried for many many hours downloading firmware, wiping, blah blah blah.) Just pull my fingernails out and burn holes in my skin!

So I tried Kies one last time using the UNMARKED Samsung cable (labeled only with the universal USB symbol on both high gloss plastic ends of a NORMAL LOOKING CABLE.

I cornered her with half a dozen pointed questions to learn the phones can not be seen by Kies with a NORMAL USB CABLE. The MAGIC SAMSUNG USB CABLE has "Built In Drivers" (WT?). She recommended not even charging the phone with a NORMAL USB CABLE because the MAGIC SAMSUNG USB Cable has voltage and charge limiting features! I'm more than a little skeptical. the dang MAGIC cable looks normal, but I can't argue with sucess, Kies works easily with the MAGIC Cable and will not even see the phone with a NORMAL USB cable.

I don't like this kind of carp level secret proprietary disfunctionality. What can they gain except for a few thousand dollars selling MAGIC USB CABLES? Is this a thin poorly thought out mimicry of Apples misguided ways???

It explains why for some people things work easy and for others things don't work. It seems totally random....because without clear instructions, people will grab any seemingly compatible cable and go.

Dear all,

I registered just to tell you guys since I don't think anyone mentioned it yet. The solution is here: Galaxy S2 no longer detected by computer via USB - xda-developers

It has absolutely nothing to do with cables and drivers; it's 2.3.x messing up some internal settings.

Quote of the full post:

Dear All
Following are my observations and possible steps to
1. When the phone is upgraded to Android 2.3.4 and above (mine is 2.3.6) Kies stops recognizing the phones and USB connection / Serial port connections etc get reset on the phone
2. Even if proper drivers are there on the laptop (mine is Windows 7 64bit) they are not recognized
3. Device Manager shows "unknown device"
4. Updating the driver also does not result in any help
5. solution lies in the phone
a. key in the dialer *#7284#
b. it has 4 option there..
UART (MODEM/PDA)
USB (MODEM/PDA)
c. For USB. select the PDA.if it already selected to PDA. reselect it by select MODEM and then PDA again.. Only change the USB setting.. andthen press back. try reconnect (thanks to napi1 @ androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/447145-sgs2-kies-not-syncing-os-2-3-5-a.html#post3484588)
6. The Laptop will start recognizing the required drivers and install them
also
Phone is not recognized by laptop when it is in USB debug mode, MyPhoneExplorer does not recognize when it is not in Debug mode

Hope this helps

My setup
Samsung Galaxy S2 GTI9100G (not rooted)
Android 2.3.6 (upgraded on Dec 8th from Samsung link in the phone)
Windows 7 64 Bit

I had same prob as you, tried everything possible, went to Samsung Live Chat...she told me turn off firewall,i did and now its working, however i never got any warning before that my firewall is blocking this, but some how it worked, debugging mode should be on. Good luck

Hi guys,

First time poster. I've also been trying for the last few months to upgrade to ICS with Win XP. Tried every recommendation on this forum with no luck. Finally borrowed my father's laptop with Win 7, installed Kies and within 40 minutes everything was done. Went to the Samsung website, installed the proper software and right away Kies recognized my SGH-i727R. Didn't have to turn on Debug, no unplugging and replugging the usb cable, didn't have to shut it off and on. Just plugged it in as is and poof! It worked. Anybody using XP might want borrow a buddy's laptop with Win7.

Good luck

Dear all
thank you so much for this thread, it is always such a relief to know that you are not alone.
Keis has slowly driven me bonkers with duplicate entries in outlook and on my Samsung Galaxy 1 - but at least it connected and had a sporting attempt at syncing.
Since getting my Galaxy Note 2 I couldn't get Keis to recognise it at all, just like the other replies.... days have gone by, my blood pressure getting higher by the minute.
MyPhoneExplorer just worked, perfectly, allowed me to choose to send the whole of Outlook contacts and calendar to the phone to get started, behaved intelligently, and is just wonderful!
Wish I had discovered it a year or two ago.
Have sent them a donation, they deserve it.:)
