Help searching for CPU app

JMcIlroy

Recently rooted my phone so I could have access to change my cpu settings. I can't find a simple app that will let me see what my cpu settings on the phone are. After seeing what the settings are I want an app to change the cpu setting. And if need be I'd like to set the phone back to the default setting. Main reason for doing this is to figure out why, when I'm listening to music, the music sometimes skips. It could be my sd card and I'm working on that tool. But I'd like to figure out the cpu stuff as well. Thanks!

Try NoFrillsCPU. I set it to the SmartAss v2 governor, with "noop" and check the "apply on boot" box (so that it runs at startup, unless there was an unclean shutdown, in which case it won't run at startup, in case you screwed up a setting that would cause a crash).

Knowing your CPUs clock speed won't likely help you determine why your music is glitching. To determine that I'd:

1) Transfer the file(s) to a PC/Mac to make sure that the file(s) are good.
2) Play the file (s) on a PC/Mac from the SD card to make sure that the SD card is good.
3) Play music with a couple different music player apps to see if they all glitch or if you have a poorly working app.
4) Shut down every other process on the phone and see if the problem still occurs. If not, then some other app may be hogging CPU cycles.

If you're listening via Bluetooth, that can sometimes lag and cause glitches.

You can use No-Frills CPU Control or Set CPU to do so, but you must also remember that you need a Kernel that supports over-clocking or these will be next to useless.

If one has installed some basic apps such as BusyBox and a terminal emulator, and has some experience at the Linux command line, one can type the command "top" (table of processes) and see an updating table of processes, including such things as %mem used by each, %cpu, etc., which is very useful in diagnostics.

One can also prioritize an app startup from the command line, using "nice" and the AppManager "am", but that's a bit more complicated than the average user would welcome.

Must admit ive rooted for years but im too scared to use command lines etc. Some day i should really learn the basics :)
i have to second what Brown said, unless youve flashed a suitable custom kernel, you wont be able to play with CPU speeds
