Yes.. I took it off and I see that when I plug the phone in it says that is installing a new device.. So it does detect the phone... however when I run that program with the kdz file it says that the phone is not detected

To fix the phone being bricked it easy and only needs one program from LG. The LGMobile Support Tool. You must have the drivers too, then you click options, upgrade recovery, enter in the IMEI for the phone then put the phone into download mode by press and holding vol up & down while inserting usb, then click Ok. It should take you to a software upgrade tool and should restore the phones os but keeps personal data like apps, accounts, and files you downloaded. It works for all LG devices.
