Root Help! Stuck in ClockworkMod Recovery (just like erik917)

I have gone through all the steps in this thread - Stuck on Clockworkmod Recovery!! - Android Forums
but still can't get it going. When I use the adb devices command, I get this:

c:\android>adb devices
List of devices attached
HT24DW411957 recovery

But any other command to fastboot or load any other program doesn't work. I get hung up on -waiting for device-

This feels so frustrating as I know I'm missing something, but having pored exhaustively through that thread, it just seems that I did something wrong during install or am missing something. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

So I pushed a cyanogen zip file onto the sd card and was able to update it successfully. Still nothing. When I reboot, it goes right to the Clockwordmod recovery screen.

I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue.

edit- also I downloaded Hansoons all in one kit and have attempted to flash recovery- it just reboots the phone back into Clockworkmod recovery and then the command prompt is -waiting for device-

hey im erik917 and bro i figured out the problem when you are in the cwm recovery click the power botton and leave it pressed until the phone turns off. then when it is off atomatically press the bottom voklume key and il take u to hboot. n then from there just download a rom.(i tryed all the roms and none worked except trick droid so i recomend installing that one) then go back to cwm recovery and flash it n thats how my phone works now. after that you can just install any other rom you would like
