Help HELP!!!...T989 USB connection / NO charge issue

miroxz

Lurker
hey all, just purchased a used SGS2 t989 running 2.3.5. Phone worked awesome till i used my usb charger. Ive been up all night trying to figure what the heck is wrong with the phone till i came across this thread.

did a factory reset no apps installed not even gmail setup, still having issues....

Here are my observations:

1-when charger is connected while phone is off, no battery display (is this normal for s2?) and when i turn phone off it shows battery icon with a charged message...wtf?!

2-Usb charger in phone > screen acts like its possessed!! starts choosing icons dialing...etc

3-USB phone to comp: like nothing is there!

4-I have an additional 2500mA battery > no avail.

5-Ive tried soft, hard, reset, battery pulls.....etc

a-do i have a lemon?
b-will rooting help?

thanks.

(just switched from ATT, this is my 10th android, and my 3rd Galaxy series...eomething doesnt feel right here:confused:)

just looking at the design of this port has me worried its a hardware issue.........all my previous galaxies had a nice metal bezel around the port....this one just seems to be floating. yikes.

ok someone suggested cleaning usb with isoprop and a brush, will give it a try and reply

is the charger usb cable a samsung, ive read some stories about non oem cables not charging properly

1-yes im now leaning more towards your opinion with regards to cable issue. i did come across that. tried cleaning with some isoprop but nothing changed. cant imagine having to use more.

2-now phone recognizes charger which is a temporary sigh of relief, at least i can charge it. phone will however go crazy when connected to wall charger every once in a while and randomly selecting menu items...etc

3-of course i am a distance away from getting kies to recognize.....clearly the phone DOES NOT like the HTC no Motorola chargers i have. by the way HTC is 1A and Moto is 0.7 in case your wondering.

4-what baffles me is the fact that when not charging / plugged it is awesome and blazing fast!!!!...i must admit my Galaxy 4G is looking very attractive.

I have never had that problem but sometimes when I plug in my T989 i hear the charging notification and the charging icon appears then quickly disappears and phone stops charging.. doesn't matter what charger i use either.. I have to reboot my phone to get it charge again..

also sometimes my battery shows 100% all day long when it actually isnt

mine also shows 100% sometimes, i have also read where a guy called samsung and they know about the 100% problem but there was no answer as to what they will do about it.

I had that problem too, but it went away after an OTA update. Go into your settings and see what your kernel version and build number are. Mine are 2.6.35.11 and Gingerbread UVKL1.

If you are still having issues with the battery, I would try depleting the battery and then charge it after it depletes. Do that a couple of times and always unplug your phone after it is fully charged.

I just got a Galaxy S2 myself and it is incredible!

yup running the same kernel....i thought we were supposed to get Gingerbread 2.3.6 instead of 2.3.5.

that kernel name is misleading

SO far here is what's worked for going around the battery issue:

1-pull battery with device on
2-wait 10 seconds, then put battery back in.
3-hold the power button down fo3 30 seconds.

you will feel the phone pulsate / vibrate.....voila! the battery does what it needs to even on an aftermarket / other device charger.

i still cant get windows to recognize the darn thing. Whats even more scary is when i hook up to a linux device running ubuntu, IT STILL WONT RECOGNIZE !@#!#$!@$#!@#.

a-does this mean we can only hook up via a windows only device?
b-is using the factory cable a must?

thanks guys in advance!

well with the samsung galaxy s2 i believe you need the oem cable. But ive been using the cable that comes with my brother's droid razr. So some cables might not work but your best bet is to use the oem cable.
