So, my request has been supposedly escalated to the "corporate level" whatever that means about getting the source code, and they asked me for this information.

Carrier

-Device Type
-Device OS
-ROM Version
-Software Number

I'm wondering what the stock values are. I know I could probably find them with some digging, but can someone that knows maybe provide this in the thread quickly so I know I have it right? I want to make sure to give them the correct ROM and software and os versions so if they actually will release the source we get the one we need. I know some of these values maybe change between different ROMS ?

Carrier- virgin mobile

-Device Type- htc evo v 4g
-Device OS- 4.03
-ROM Version -not sure some one can help ya here
-Software Number -not sure some one can help ya here

Ok, after a lot of mailing, they finally escalated , and they called me on the phone.

They pointed me to the same source code download which was previously posted:
HTC

They said this is the right source code, but I told them I wasn't sure... forgot about the config file thing. So, I told them I need some time to confirm and they are going to call back tomorrow. So, when they call back I will explain the config file thing to them.

They said they are also in the process of confirming, and that they are going to update their site to represent that download as EVO V 4G and Virgin Mobile rather than EVO 3D/Sprint to avoid more confusion.

Anyway... not sure about the config file. But, it might actually be the correct source. Has anyone looked at the source itself yet // just replace the config file, or whatever?

what your saying would make sense. because the version numbers matched up. I will have to check onthis later Im gonna PM G60

I tried taking the config file from the stock ROM and using it against that source and it was riddled with errors on the build. I will keep an eye on this thread with auto emails. I have been out of development for a few weeks been taking a break and also been off the threads as well. If the kernel actually gets solved I will get back on the horse and work on it again.

Ok --- I downloaded the config from the stock rom which you posted earlier in this thread, so, when I talk to HTC again I will tell them what you said here, and I will offer to send them the stock config. I don't understand how they don't have it really, but hopefully they can figure that out and it's just an honest mistake.

I'm still pretty mad at HTC about this because they made it damn hard to actually get in touch with anyone that even sent that link to begin with, let alone respond to any comment that the link is not correct.

I think the escalation really helps though, at least they kind of seem more knowledgeable once it is escalated instead of someone just copy+pasting out of a manual or something. It's just annoying that you pretty much have to be rude or DEMAND to be escalated before they will actually escalate you. Like their manager punishes them if they escalate things before someone says "F*** YOU!!"... lol

Holly SH!T BATMAN! The Kernel is finally listed on HTCDEV!!!

Device Carrier Region Type Kernel Android Size Description
EVO V 4G Virgin Mobile WWE CRC 3.0.16 v4.0 97.7 MB 1.14.652.0

I am currently downloading the CM9 source code and will be working on it once again.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it appears the file now shown on htcdev.com as source for the Evo V 4G is exactly the same file as was previously listed under the Evo 3D. I did a comparison of the two files using UltraCompare (see attached screenshot) and there is no difference in the dates, sizes or contents of the files contained within the two archives. It appears the same file has just been reassigned from the Evo 3D to the Evo V. :(

Ramjet is right, I just loaded the configs and they are tons different from my Wife's stock phone. I guess this is the kernel they recommend for the Evo V or they are just plain lazy? Non the less if this is what they say is ours I guess I will try and use it with the source.

The only other thing I can think of is VM bought the phone and kernel from HTC and had some 3rd party company build out of the software? Maybe HTC revamped the kernel and libs and VM didn't want to pay for an upgrade? I am not sure but the fact the libs are so different from phone to phone it's the only crap I can come up with as I just woke up...

yeah have done just a few comparisons lol, and the libs and other proprietaries are just about all different then what is used on the 3d. Somthing definitly smelling just a bit fishy. Would not be surprised at all if your just out of bed theory is not correct. Also seems a bit odd it took this long for HTC to post a Kernel when all they needed to do was change the dam name.

I think that is the case, that VM probably changed the config on their own or something, but I still have a ticket open with HTC escalations so eventually they will reply and let us know.... they are currently "investigating" the config file thing. I offered to supply them with the download to the stock config but they said they would contact back if they needed that. So, for now, not really sure what they are doing.

I feel like the kernel should match though, or be close?

You are correct kake2k, if you need the stock config I have it here. This was pulled from a Virgin Mobile Evo V 4g after activation and the PRL update from VM.

http://joeytroy.com/htcevov4g/config.gz

I simply ran the following command from an Ubuntu box using ADB, this can also be done in Windows as well.

$ adb pull /proc/config.gz

That config file (once extracted from the .gz), and the config located in kernel source under arch/arm/configs/shooter_config should be damn near exact. There maybe a few differences based on the fact the kernel was not compiled but the differences right now are about 100+.

Again tonight I will work on this and see what I can make happen. I am not expecting much....
