Root Help - This stuff used to be easy!!

BigRedGonzo

Android Expert
I have rooted my Bionic and verified Root.

I have made a Nandroid Backup of the system.

I was following the guide and it appeared (at least to me) that I needed to install Bionic Bootstrap and Safestrap. I did that and now I'm not sure if I needed both of them. All I really want to do is flash a jelly bean ROM on my Bionic. Do I need both of the *Strap options or just BootStrap. I hope by now you see my confusion. Can somebody steer me in the right direction?

Also, once we get past this mess. Can I use ROM Manager? Do I need to use ROM Manager?? I'm soooooo confused!!

Thanks,
BigRedGonzo

You have to use bootstrap or safe strap the 2 cannot be used together. Usually to be a jelly be rom you need to use a safe strap. If you're just looking to backup your system add flash themes boot strap is fine the plan on flash custom roms you're going to need to be on safe strap.

Safestrap has a bootstrap and a custom recovery. Version 2 has a recovery that works like ClockworkMod, while version 3 has a touch-based recovery based on TWRP.

Safestrap protects your existing system and data from the flashing of custom ROMs, unlike bootstrap/clockwork.

It was my understanding you can't have two boot straps. You either have to have bionic bootstrap or safestrap 3.07

That said, I believe rom devs are only supporting safestrap. My advice is uninstall bionic bootstrap and make sure you have the latest safestrap installed. Here's the link to safestrap. Safestrap
