Help Help to confirm genuine / clone Ft3 or SP2

CONFIRMED FAKE :> ty for all replies!! :> PICS below in my 3rd post

Hi all,

(if in wrong forum oops and sorry in advance, I've read a couple and this looks like the best bet, so feel free to move it if required)

I've brought this,

1
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d?r

Auction is dubious....

I'm not cranky with the vendor either as i was figuring it's hit and miss on this kind of online sale, i just want to confirm if its genuine or a cheap copy. I'm leaning towards copy.

I plan on pulling the thing apart once i can confirm its a clone (as this is what i assume now having browsed the interwebs and youtube for un-boxings or real units. If its genuine then ill deal with seller in good faith as Paypal will simply refund my money if he is trying to pull a shifty.

The particulars.
Box = SuperPAD II (pic to come)
Boot Screen = Andr8oid World (will add pic later)
Build Quality = no screws visible, seems to be clip together although the finish looks like a well built device, it hasn't fallen apart and there are no obvious shortcuts in construction.
Sticker on back= infoTMIC (tm) some Chinese then Android2.2 DDRII512M Hard Disk 4GB
Manual = Looks cheap doesn't mention company name, bla0ck and white normal non gloss paper.
Camera = quality is bad, doesn't mention what pixel count it's meant to be anywhere but its nothing like the galaxy2 i have

Android OS info from About device (pic to come)

Model: P041
Android Version: 2.2 V2.6#4402 (with the space there)
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build #: FRF85B

Issues... LOTS..

1. Tilt sensor: dodgy, a car drives past that's loud and the screen inverts. Have calibrated a few times, still very dodgy. Calibrate screen has the horizontal and vertical spirit level gauges which move slower than i thought would be possible if at all

2. Power: Supplied charger 5v ~3.0A AC adapter, MODEL: THX-0053000KB doesn't work, have seen similar on other forum posts.

note here: I'm in Australia so 240v 60Hz AC is our mains.

I've used an adjustable one i use for work a lot and can verify with a multimeter that my work adapter is good. Its a Powertech MP-3314 from Jaycar dot com dot au(Link) if your interested and was about $25. 3-12VDC 1.5A Max.

  • supplied 5v charger will not charge device, but it powers it if the power button is held down (not feasible for using it) it turns of once released despite RED power light and charging overnight. Battery on this setup reads as 0%
  • Adjustable charger is same on 5v, but will run the device without holding the power button down when set to 6.5v or above. When on 5v 0% battery, when on 6.5v 100%, in both info bar at top and battery section. Once unplugged device turns off
  • 9v (supplied) Car charger (using car ciggy / accessory port) charges the device in what appears to be a normal fashion. i.e it starts turns on and says about 2% (ish) and then goes up slowly. Once unplugged it drains normally through use although i only sat in the car for 20 mins and got it to 10% cos its a cold winter here haha.
3. Lockups: The tablet locks up. Hard lockups which i cant hold down buttons to reset or power off, I have to use the reset switch on the bottom corner

4. Wi-fi: Seems to work even without the supplied external antenna.

5. SD slot: Doesn't want to accept any micro SD card, says corrupted, when i expand that and say yes sure format it to fix, doesn't seem to do anything. I'll look into this further as i now have a micro sd->sd adapter and can format the card in my laptop if i need to (its 8gb Kingston btw)

6. Using the thing: Slow and unresponsive it seems like the processor is a reject and someone might have salvaged it to build and sell of cheap. Screen feels like its come off the backing and you cant gently push it down a couple of millimeters before there is solid resistance.

Questions:

Is there a way to tell the following easily without opening the case and voiding warranty?

How to tell hardwareversions, genuine/clone?

Finally I'm pretty sure its fake, how will it do with official firmware updates, i might as well pull it to pieces if it is :>

Thanks in advance Pics will go up after I'm back from dinner.

It's a P041, it says so in the Model Number field.

It's the new FlyTouch III. It has a different motherboard and uses a 9V charger with approximately the same battery life as the 6400mAh 5V models.

Ok thanks :> might still pull it apart anyway for the fun of it :>

IF the model number is correct and it is a genuine Flytouch III model, it sounds like a lot of your issues are with the ROM (The base Operating System)to be honest with you.

I might be talking out of school, but have you considered flashing the ROM to a more efficient one?

Flytouch 3 Hybrid ROM (rooted)

The P041 doesn't flash the same way as the FlyTouch III, it needs different firmware.

If it says Android World you got lucky. Of the myriad of manufacturers out there they seem to be one of the better. Manufacturer being a loose term for company that gets the parts and flashes the firmware. Assembler might be a better term.

The build quality is much better and solid than most. The two I have opened now both came with class 6 microsd inside instead of the expected class two.

EvilEd and Tbod are both correct. Your issues are most likely from the firmware but there are currently no custom firmware available for the p041. They will flash from SD but the file system is different so the current FT3 roms won't work. If you are impatient you could do a Google search and a few stock roms have been posted online.

As for opening it up I have heard the p041 is coming in two flavors. One is the Facepad style case and the other is the Flytouch. They open a little differently. Look around but the Facepad the touchscreen is raised above the silver casing and the Flytouch is inside flush. There are tutorials here and on apadtv.

PS. it is good to see someone with a healthy attitude about buying "cheapies" online.

Hi
don't know if you have a silver model or black edition, anyway 1st thing 1st you have wrong charger should be 9v 2.5amp,2nd sd card best to use are sandisk never failed me yet, totally formatted, 3rd a clone no if you have the silver model there a cheaper quality to black edition, you have 2x 3,800mhz twin pack battery set, fast charge with 9v charger of course, they do not supply new motherboard etc as a fake the only fake you get is maybe the box, they come in superpad, superpadII superpadIII and plain boxes and of course IBEX boxes but there all the same silver tablet or if there the black there real box is the superpadII box,on freezing screen easiest way out of it is button on front press a couple of times and then home button on top better than a reset everytime, never used reset yet on a freezed screen, also got a bit light on pressing the screen and apps there very light touch you press too hard they go no where except freeze, and it's a 10inch screen of very thin glass, whats under is a mother board and battery set and thin air between screen and board there not made to be pushed with force,on your full charge you'll get around 4 hours wifi and 6ish off wifi,on rotation do a g.sensor config in settings

thanks, decided to pull it apart for the fun of it, battery drained from 100% charge using a enw charger vendor sent me express in about 45 minutes of ti being idle. Happy to wait for a new update / flash will tinker with the parts till then.

What did you found inside? What kind of batteries? What class is the memory card?

Hi all,

thanks for all your advice, the unit is def a fake, here are some pics, 3000mAh battery is a dead giveaway so is the missing vibration motor and it was non screws just inbuilt clips, wrong box etc.

Seller was dodgy, i'm going to raise an issue with ebay about his conduct and then see what I can do about flashing it so its a bit more responsive as its total pooh compared to my Samsung.

Also BIG, pictures

Main board, ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

Back of screen, ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

Wireless thingo, ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

Further out wireless + speaker, ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

Bottom of Battery, (can't make out what it says but its cheapo 2x1500mAh cells), ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

Back of main board with flash card removed and sat on port, http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/814/dsc0402l.jpg/

The SD card which came with it FORESEE t-Flash 4gb, http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/707/shippedwiththisinbuilt4.png/

Anyways from here I'm going to order a real battery, Flytouch 3 8000mah Battery - Replacement Battery for Flytouch3

and then play round with flashing the device etc to see what i can do with it.

Infra :>

p.s happy to answer any questions you might have

Sorry to contradict you Infrasound but - as I posted earlier - your tablet is not a fake anything but the latest release FlyTouch III with the new improved(?) motherboard. Check over on the aPad website for more details...

Update:
Since posting the above earlier today it turns out some people are now shipping sawee units with the buggy P041 firmware from FacePads.
Apologies for any confusion I might have inadvertently caused.
