Root Help to Theme

Newbie
Want to change appeance of icons, widgets. Specifically google search widget.

Would like to apply other changes (themes?)

Help? Advice? Knowledge?

Are you using CM7, MIUI, or Stock Froyo? If your using CM7 or MIUI it is easier to download a theme.

Download 7-zip archive manager, put the google search apk on your computer, open then apk with 7-zip, go into res, and most of the stuff you can theme is in drawable and drawable-hdpi. Make sure to keep the images in .png format.

Stock Froyo. Haven't flashed alternative ROM (CM7) because it appears from other threads that it is not yet capable of supporting a lot of features.

Can I still do what you're talking about with Stock ROM?

CM7 up to date for Triumph? Any draw backs?

CM7 is up to date, you should really check in with the thread, and yes you can do it with stock froyo.

CM7 is just missing HDMI output and MIUI is also missing HDMI output and MIUI cant play HD games.

1. CM7 and MIUI are both very stable and have more features working than stock.
2. If you just want to change icons, you can use a 3rd party launcher. They have options to change icons (I know adw and golauncher both do, I am sure others do as well).
3. CM7 and MIUI both have lots of theming options, but yo can do most of that on stock as well, you just have to get in the files more.
There are plenty of theming threads at various places (xda, etc.) just search for some and read up. You can customize any part of the OS if you know what you are doing. Just make sure you search for threads for your version of android (froyo 2.2.2,CM7, MIUI, etc). There are also a decent number of rethemed stock ROMs in the forums here.

Sill lost fellas. I have my Triumph connected via USB w/ storage on, but all I see is the files on my SD card. How do I see the phone itself (i.e. /system)?

I'm looking for ANY apk file. Don't see any!

You can copy the files to your SD card using a file explorer on your phone. You can also pull them using ADB, but it is probably easier to start with the file explorer if you don't know your way around the file system.

Give the file explorer (I use ES File Explorer, but there are many alternatives) root access and you can find the OS files. You are going to either have to find a tutorial for what you want to do (like on xda, or through a google search) or do a lot of stuff by trial and error. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU START! You will also need something to decompile/recompile/sign apk's. Just do a google search for some of this stuff. There are a few threads about changing some parts of a theme here as well that have links to these utilities, but you will have to figure out where the stuff you want to change is.

Still big noobin. Finally figured out that if I just hit "Up" on Astro it will take me to where I need to go. "Home" takes me to the SD card for whatever reason, and that's what was throwing me.
