Help HELP! Unable to obtain IP address Iconia A500

Hope someone can help because it's brand new out of the box and unable to connect to the internet at the hotel I'm staying at. I tried a dongle, that worked fine and my laptop is currently connected to the hotel wifi without any problem.

THe Iconia finds the connection (excellent) but it then says "Obtaining IP address" and then tries for a while and then gives up and makes it 'disabled'.

Being a hotel it's the kind of connection that requires you to enter a username and password when you go to a browser AFTER you've connected to the 'unsecured connection'. But I can't get as far as getting on the unsecured connection....

Please help if you can! I'm so bitterly disappointed!! Nothing like getting it out of the box and having it all work like clockwork :(

Thanks, Nadia

When the "obtaining IP" is on, reset the Iconia with a pin in the hole on the side. That should do it.
Is it updated to 3.1 or 3.2?

On the left-hand side of the tablet (landscape) near the top is a small hole labelled Reset. Push a pin gently into touhe hole and remove it. This will do a soft reset. This should fix your problem.

Did you do it when it was trying to obtain the ip?
Otherwise it won't do any good... :-)
BTW, you said you connected it on a dongle??
How was that even possible if it is unrooted?

When you started it for the first time, did you get the android setup?
Otherwise it is probably a good idea to do a full reset...

I had the wifi problem after the last update. Killed mine and alot of others all over the world. There were a bunch of work arounds depending on which Tablet set up you had. I tried all the work arounds till I was about to give up. The only way it started working again was to hit the reset as it was trying to obtain the IP address. The reset is actually on the right lower side if you hold it in landscape with the volume button on the top left. If that doesn't work go into the settings and do a factory reset and you may have other isues. There is no foactory support for a dongle nor and drivers that I know of for a wifi dongle. If you aren't using the built in wifi you have a serious problem and need to return it to the retailer you bought it from.

I just had the same problem. I was told by tech support to do a reset 3 times in a row. It worked just fine for me.
Hope this helps.
