Help HELP! - unable to update system software

I receive the following message:


assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/AccountSyncManager.apk", ....

E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
installation aborted.



Any ideas?
 
trying to update to (name of file):

ota_bravo_htc_e.2.1.405.2-2.09.405.8_release567cupui0feo4th5.zip

my info:
baseband version: 32.47.00.32u_5.10.05.23
kernel version: 2.6.32.15-g1fc4045
build number: 2.09.405.8 CL218634 release-keys
 
He's on 2.09.405.8 and is trying to update to 2.10.405.2 - the OTA should work...unless you were branded before, in which case you need a gold card to do the update

I didn't get that from his post. The file only contained the same.build as he has. Must be a typo missing 0
 
there isn't a 2.1, there is:

2.10.405.2 (OTA or RUU)
2.29.405.2 (only availabe as RUU at present)

after downloading the ZIP file, you did rename it update.zip (not update.zip.zip) and run it in recovery and not from a custom recovery didn't you?

Yep - its exactly what i did.
 
Haven't a clue then...I'd say download the latest RUU and just flash that. You'll have to set your phone up again but at least it's up to date. You can get either the RUU or the PB99IMG of the latest 2.29.405.2 ROM on shipped-roms.com
