Help Help! Up Time = Awake Time

hahaha actually that was one of the ones that I uninstalled. I had something else just like City ID and I uninstalled that yesterday too. It was cool, but I realized that my phone was getting way too cluttered. I don't care if stuff is on my phone that I don't use much, but that's one of the ones that's always running in the background, and something that's always running that I don't really care about for more than a novelty thing, probably isn't worth it.

I'm also glad my random ranting has helped someone out, I figured most people were ignoring this thread since I was pretty much talking to myself for the last 10 posts lol

I was following along, I'm sure others were too. In your original list I didn't see Caller ID listed so I uninstalled it. Did you uninstall the same time as Widgets? Perhaps it was that app entirely? Just wondering because so many people like B Widgets and rave about it.

Nah, the Caller ID one I uninstalled yesterday with about 5 or 6 others. I installed a couple back on (like The Weather Channel), but after everything yesterday the problem persisted. Today after uninstalling Beautiful Widgets it worked perfectly, then I reinstalled it, and it wouldn't sleep, then I uninstalled it and it worked perfectly again. It might be the way that app is talking to another app, but uninstalling Beautiful Widgets definitely fixed my problem.

Right now I'm sitting at;

Up Time - 2:30
Awake Time: - 0:22
Battery - 72%

That's not bad considering I unplugged my phone at 8 this morning, have been using it quite a bit for texting, had the rogue app on there for about half an hour draining my battery about 10% overall while it was on, and still have only dropped 28% in 6.5 hours. Normally I'm using it a bit more for surfing the net, but I've laid off that for control purposes today.

I also don't turn off the phone to charge the extra 10% or so, so it effectively starts lower than 100% anyway.

If I can keep this battery time I'll be happy!

PS. I've also been installing a lot of other apps since the original list haha. I downloaded Dolphin HD2, about 5 games, Happy Hours, SystemPanelLite, Handcent SMS, and Amazon (uninstalled and installed again). I love having lots of apps, as long as they're not rogue! haha

I have 2 batteries so I charge the used one in an external (= full charge) and then swap it in the morning. Today with my uptime about the same time as my awake time I dropped a huge amount in a very short time. After I swapped the battery with a full one, I uninstalled the Caller ID and I now have uptime of 91 minutes with awake at around 10, battery still at 100% (probably around 95%) Been on the phone, constant push email etc.

Hey, what is the difference between Dolphin regular and HD?

Yeah it makes a huge difference on the battery to not have it awake all the time. What kills me is that the Beautiful Widget wasn't doing that about a week ago, I've had it for maybe 2 weeks now and it just started. :(

As for Dolphin, I have no idea, I was just reading "what's the best app" thread, and saw Dolphin so I went in and it was Dolphin HD2. I don't know the difference between that and regular Dolphin, but from what I understand HD2 is twice as fast as HD.

Cool. Good luck with BW, they'll get it fixed. So glad I don't have to keep checking that battery thing any longer. And thanks for the thread.

Thanks man, I'm really glad too. I'm also extremely glad neither of us reverted to a hard reset. I would have hated to have lost everything!

I got to thinking if City ID does the same thing? That would suck and you can't remove it without root.

Hmph

Up time - 3:30
Awake Time - 1:10
Battery - 81%
Beautiful Widgets - 41%

I also understand it could be a conflict between that app and another one I have, but would really like for this one to work for me!

It must be something specific to your setup.

BW causes no issues on my inc.

Are you sure this is repeatable? It wasn't just an anomaly (maybe the skin dialog was left open in the bg or the like?)

Yeah i repeated it 3 times installing and installing it. It was definitely my app. Even after using it normally for the rest of the day after my tests im currently at 50% batt life after plugging it at 8 this mornin. That's almost 13 hours unplugged.

I found my issue it was all the sync app's. I have disable sync since i sync most of the feed myself anyways and awake and uptime are now different its going to sleep now so.

so try disabling you sync then check awake time

I tried that with no change. I'm currently working with the developer of Beautiful Widgets to see if changing settings on my phone makes a difference. He has been very responsive and very helpful, we sent maybe 10 or so emails back and forth within an hour this morning.

Currently he suggested enabling "Use Wireless Network", which seems to be working, but I will monitor throughout the day.

I'm very glad he's been so helpful, I wouldn't even consider asking for a refund for the app (my only paid app) because he did some great work on this and it's an amazing app. Whether I can use it or not, he deserves the donation. After deciding that, it's also great to see that he's so willing to help people to get it working and diagnose issues as well.

Well, it looks like that was the problem. After doing what I posted above, BW is only showing a CPU usage of .4%, it's not showing up on my batt usage page, and it only shows that it's been using the CPU for 32s in the last 2.5 hours. I have it set on 15 min update intervals too, so that's pretty impressive.

I'm really glad I have BW back, as I really do love the way it looks on my home screen!

Which "Use Wireless Network" setting are you referring to? Is that something in beautiful widgets or the phone settings?

Use wireless network? What does that have to do with awake time? What happens if you go out of wireless range or turn it off? If you are out of wireless range and your phone is always trying to locate a wireless, then it will drain more battery. Weird.

I found another awake time problem. When I looked at running apps I always saw "Clock" at the top of the list. Figured it was just a clock running, no big deal. But when I went to "Date and Time" and unchecked "automatic", my awake time went down to nearly nil. Those that are having issues, give it a try.

I have no idea why Tue network setting fixes it, but it definitely does. And. Yeah its the one in the phone settings.

As for Tue clock, that's really weird that it does that, nice tip though! Is that on the stock one or beautiful widgets one?

Fun update---

I just had a hard reset done on my phone (long story), and BW was one of the first apps I installed. It was keeping my phone awake AGAIN.

I tried changing the same setting with no luck. Looks like I'm back to emailing the dev's. PITA. Love the widget, love everything about it, but don't love that it cuts my battery time in half.

This awake time thing is a royal pain in the ****ing ass. I get it almost every day and I don't have BW. I don't even believe it's an app problem at this point. I think the phone just has a mind of itself and says, "Hey this jackass is not looking, let's keep the phone awake he'll never notice." But I do notice and power down and immediately back up. Problem gone for another day.
