Root [HELP] Using the 'Sprint' version on Boost

Evul1

Newbie
I have a defective Marquee that I'm preparing to send in to LG for repair. In the meantime, and going forward as a backup, I'm looking to buy a used Marquee. Oddly, I'm finding used Marquees that are the 'Sprint' version to be much cheaper than used 'Boost' versions. I know the phones are physically the same, but does anyone know if I will be able to activate a Sprint Marquee on the Boost network? Or will the phone's IMEI number be recognized as Sprint only, thus preventing me from activating? Has anyone tried this before?

I remember when I originally rooted my Marquee, I flashed the Sprint stock firmware, with the ZVC baseband, and my Boost service didn't work until I flashed the stock Boost

I'm trying to find either someone who has specifically tried this before, or someone with expertise who can tell me for sure, or with good certainty, if this will work. Any feedback is appreciated though!

Without going in to a lot of detail, it can be done but not with the Sprint phones MEID. Getting the phone to work on the Boost Network is not an easy process either. There are also many problems that you can run into such as loss of data, no MMS, and etc.

If you look around long enough you'll find a Boost version that is not that expensive. Mine was practically brand new and in mint condition. I only paid $150 and it came with 3 protective cases too. :D

Hey there Evul1, just be careful the road you are going down with moving to networks that aren't originally compatible with one another because you could possibly get involved with ESN Cloning which is very much illegal.

Perhaps you didn't understand my question?

I'm not cloning ESNs or anything like that, I'm simply asking if any Marquee will work with Boost, or does it have to be one specifically from Boost. I was simply wondering if anyone here has tried it, since this forum is for both the Sprint and Boost Marquee, and the since the roms being developed here work with both networks. Suffice to say that if I were going to clone an ESN, I wouldn't do it for a phone that's already available with Boost...

That's the thing, I can find the Sprint version for $85 on ebay for a used one, or $115 for a new one.

But I'm guessing the reason they are cheaper is because they only work on the Sprint network, with its more expensive service plans.
