Help w/ managing text messages

I just purchased and activated my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone. I can't seem to figure out how to delete text messages I've read. I should let everyone know, that I am not the most tech s person, so I apologize for the simple question.

Well, I've got the stock messaging app on my Galaxy Nexus and I would assume that the method is pretty similar:

- open up your text / message app
- select the text thread/conversation you would like to delete
- from the menu button (or three vertical dots icon), select "Delete thread"
- select "Delete" to confirm or "Cancel"
