Help wanted

Hi

My Mum has purchased a Zcom tablet it says it is Model number 8518 and DS821. I have installed Skype but it does not work, also websites that have flash do not seem to work either. I dont have a tablet but am good with technology but I am currentloy struggling.

Where would I find an updated ROM to update the tablet?

The specs are below - thanks for any help and advise

Android version: 3.2.1
Kernel version:2.6.32.27 root@a-system-product-name #519
Build number: rk29_gingerbread_v1.28
rk29sdk-eng 2.3.1 GINGERBREAD eng.root.20110711.110441 test-keys

Having a look but I can't find much info about that online sorry.

It might well be the chip isn't capable of Flash or Skype. I know Flash needs an ARMv7 and above processor. Can you find Flash on the market?

I'll have a look around though, see what I can dig up.

Sorry I should have said I had downloaded flash from the market and it seems to have installed ok

Is it this one? Zcom 8518 8in Tablet PC 1.2GHz - 4GB - Android 2.3 - Flash 10.1&3D Dual Camera

If so, spec wise, I can't actually see any reason why that wouldn't run flash so it might be an issue with the stock browser. Try installing Dolphin Browser or Opera Mobile and changing your User Agent to Desktop (if you need instructions for that, let me know, but it should be easy enough to find in the settings for either).

I know Skype is very hit and miss, does it error when you try to use it? What happens? Do normal calls work?

I will try that on Sunday when I go to my Mum's, I think I know the user agent bit am sure I have seen that in the settings

thanks:)

Not sure about Skype unfortunately, I know it's very temperamental and won't work on some devices.

From the Skype description on the market page:

Do you see a Video call setting?

hi, there is a video call buton, my mum has just rung me on it and I can see here on my iPhone but she cant see me but can see herself

thanks for your help i really appreciate it

No worries mate, we're here to help. :)

If you can see her, and instead of you, are you sure it's not an issue on your side or have you had a skype call with anyone else before?

I have skype'd to a pc and that works no problem on my iPhone, but the same thing happens when I skype the tablet to the pc:confused:

I'll have a dig about, see what I can find. I'm not overly hopeful (sorry) as I just think it's the Skype Android app being rubbish, but I'll report back if I find anything for you! :)

Have you tried clearing the cache and data associated with the app? Settings-> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Skype -> Clear Cache/Data? She might need to set the app up again, but if there's anything there that's causing corruption/errors, that should clear it.
